Valve usually waits for companies to contact them first..
and I am probably showing my age here but, does no one use Ventrilo anymore? I have only recently heard people mentioning "discord", and back when I played online games more often than I do now Ventrilo was just about everyones VOIP of choice..
I and many others don't want all the extra crap built into steam to support, not only just this one chat program, but every other chat program out there because thats what people would want if you jam discord in there.
We don't need or want extra bloat. You want to use those programs, then use those programs, they don't need to be part of steam.
I wouldn't mind it being in Steam as I do like it more than any other chat program out there now but don't have a problem using Steam chat/voice chat like others do.
They don't suddenly stop using CPU and Memory when they get integrated, they would still continue to use nearly as much as they use now. So its not going to be as optimized as you think it will be.
Also what about the rest of us who don't what that extra bloat to take up the extra cpu and ram? And you haven't mentioned yet about all the other chat software that people will want integrated into steam, thats going to take up more resources for stuff you are not going to use.
Maybe if you could not download stuff for the steam client. Don't want voice chat? Don't download voice chat. Don't want Big Picture Mode? Don't download BPM. Don't want discord or Ventrilo or any other program like that, don't download the module for it. Then I would not care. But as it is, you can't do that and anything that gets integrated into Steam causes more bloat.
So I doubt anything like that would ever happen and I don't ever see 3rd party programs getting integrated into Steam because of the whole bloatware issue.
