Be able to write reviews across multiple languages

Wouldn't it be great if we could somehow write reviews in multiple languages. Many have friends from all over the world and would like to reach as many of them as possible.

For the time being, some use English to do that, but some may not know it. Or we might want to write reviews in other languages for whatever reasons we fancy.

The rating wouldn't change (either thumbs up or down), same across all the reviews for one same game. If someone rates the review up or down, it will affect all of them (or not?). A review in multiple languages will count as a single one. Comments should be discussed as well. It really is just the language that is affected.

We could write everything in the same box, but then we are then severely limited by maximum word/character count =\

I do agree with the idea, i think something like that will be good for many of the multi-language users on Steam

And even if he dose 2 languages in it, only one of the two is likely to see both of them

Yup my thoughts exactly. Hence the idea.

Nut this opens up the case for confusion and people literally giving multiple reviews. COnsider. The english version of the game is find but trhe in game spanish translation his horrible, as in nintendo manual translation horrible. What do you do?

Really, there's never a need to actually review a game in multiple languages., besiudes trying to game for greater visibility,, and that's a pretty ass reason. Pick a language, write the review and be done with it.

Which then creates an interesting paradox. If you write a review in one language based on your experience with another language. WHich might very well cause some assumptions and confusion for the readers.

I think that's not really optimal.

E.g. I speak Hungarian (Native) and English (on a comprehensive level, and a bit of German, but I am probably not good enough to write a comprehensive review in German without heavy dictionary use) So where should I put my English/Hungarian review?

In the Hungarian section? What's the point of having English there, when everyone speaks Hungarian on that forum?

In the English forum? What's the point of adding the Hungarian language when only a fraction of the people speak Hungarian there and they already speak English (since they are on an English forum).

Ideally you'd wnat to put it under ehichever language is under-served. Or failing that, write it in the language you are most profficient in. Better question why should the system devote space to a copied review?

you know what's worse? half of the people don't even bother about the language they pick. when I have "my langs" options ticked, it can show me zero reviews. then i turn it off and... wow, lotsa english reviews. really? ain't there at least simple lang detector can be added by valve? it's a mess with a single language and you want multiple...

Not a good compromise, I often hit 8000 character limit on my regular reviews.

Either way, OP, you just review it in the language you're most proficient in writing, if someone really wants to know what it says they can run it through a translator and pick up the gaps.

Write better reviews and you won't.

Not trying to be insulting but that's exactly what you'd get from any profession editor. The quality of writing is judged by how much is said with how few words.
