Discord Built Into Steam?
I think most of us can agree on that the Steam chat isn't very good. How about getting rid of that and have Discord built into Steam then it would be better for all of us because Discord's overlay doesn't really work that well for me it's slow and all you can do with it is change channels no chat yet. This way we can have chat and do everything that we do with the desktop Discord but have it built into Steam.

No we don't need it built into steam. The steam one is good enough for what we need.

There are things that I like in discord (being able to turn up or down individual people), but thats about it.

We don't need to have a whole bunch of rooms, or anything like that.

Yes, brilliant idea, let's get more bloat into the client, it's just what we need.

Why is it, some people wants Valve, to integrated every single piece of software on the internet in Steam, I do not get it.

If people want to use Discord, they go to the website and get the client, not everyone on Steam use stuff like that, so no need to force them to waste memory/CPU on it in Steam.

Probably because they have added so much already and would like it improved upon?
Chat - anything is better than Steam Chat.
Voice - Mumble / Teamspeak / Ventrilo / Discord
Broadcast - PlaysTV, Twitch, Youtube
Music - Spotify, Pandora, Groove, Clementine, http://radio.garden/

The problem is that the alternative free standalone products will always do these things better, because what Valve implements as their own, is always the bare minimum.

The real question might be is, If Valve is only in it for the bare minimum then why did Valve even bother to encourage people to expect more from the features they did give us?

They give people basic tools, if people need more or better, they can go and get those tools on the side, would be a PITA for those who makes those tools to have to wait for Valve to get their stuff updated.

Exactly how is the Steam chat bad?

What do you lack in the Steam chat that the others offers?

Animated emoticions! :steammocking:
Well, and a chat history, from the top of my head. But mostly animated emoticons.

No. I think the Steam communication is perfectly fine the way it is. And how exactly is the chat system bad?

My thoughts exactly. It isn't a necessary addition; we already have a perfectly functioning system already.

Why stop at Discord? Why not allow Teamspeak, Ventrillo, Skype, LINE, AOL IM, and every other chat program in?

Stupid Idea. If you don't like steam chat, gert your own discord server and send invites to your friends. If they add another chat service then it will be more resources added to steam client which will give more lag and more issues.

People can live without animated emoticons so that isn't an issue.

Steam chat had a history but there where so many people complaining about the chat window not being "Clean" when you started to chat again so they removed it. Or so I'd believe because that's what remember people complaining about.

I woulden't say perfect there are a lot of missing things in the Steam system that pretty much every other company has.

Name these features that every other chat program have that Steam doesn't.

2. Free emojis very lacking.
3. Doesn't have voice group chat.
4. Doesn't have the ability to view YouTube videos right on the chat like Discord as well. Same goes for links for sites that have a breif discription that pops up at the bottom.

1: Has existed, but was removed. Most likely due to all the complaints from people not wanting it to be there.
2: Steam has it's own set of emoticons and I don't think they'll be brining in the one from other apps.
3: I haven't tried the feature but you can start a voice chat through the Steam chat. Not sure if more people can be brought into it. But I'd rather just use Skype for this because it's just the best option.
4: For Youtube videos it would be fine. But with the other link people could start spamming adult sites. So I don't think Valve will add that.

You don't know what Discord is! What planet are you from?
Not everyone need tools like that, that's why it would be bloat to forcefeed every single steamuser with it through the client.

Here's an idea, why not ask the developer behind Discord to get it on the Steamstore?
I think I know what they will say, but give it a try.

You said not everyone but a lot of people would want those tools so would it be a good idea to add it and the other people that don't want to use the tools just simply don't use it?

Why should I waste memory and CPU on superfluous stuff in the steamclient, I say you want it, you go and get it.

I wish it were that simple just email Valve and they just add whatever you want.

I think you misunderstood what I wrote, let me try again.
I and a lot of other users do not want/need this in the steamclient, you wish to use it, you go to Discords hompage and get it that way.

Thank god, it's not that easy to get every kind of bloat added, I'm very happy for that.
