Automatic/Manual System Req Analyzer?
Although I no longer need help understanding the system requirements certain games require, I did need to do a lot of googling before my current knowledge. I think having a Steam feature where Steam itself analyses your computer and tells you if the game is playable or not would be a great feature to help those newbies who are starting out. I know something like this already exists elsewhere, but having it implemented into Steam would be a lot better. Specially considering the existing one does not offer its services for Macs (which is what I use). Any thoughts on this? Or maybe is this function already in Steam and I just haven't stumbled upon it? (sorry if this is the case, I'll feel really stupid).

Been discussed to death. This is a bad idea beacuse these automatic analyzers are often very inaccurate, and Valve wouldn't want to hear all the complaints about how "You said I could run the game, but I couldn't!"
I'm not againsted the idea but not for it ether. If people don't know if they can run something wouldn't it be better to actually learn something about computers then having a program to automaticly analyze the computer spec to see if you can run something, sure it would/could be fast and easier but it'd just keep people dumb instead of learning.

Raptr has one to analyze your specs/hardware.

Sometimes I feel that we are going backwards when better tech comes out, instead of going forward.

Yeah, I figured that was one of the reasons why the feature wasnt implemented. It makes sense. I still wish they could somehow make it work though

Yeah, I mean that's what I did. I learned to understand my computer and understand the requirements some games have. However I also had a lot of free time and I don't think everyone's life is formatted to fit mine. Some don't have the time to learn about all the video cards and what they can run or not, some people just want to play and get away from life for a little. But I get your point regardless

I should have added that point too as I know not everyone has the time or even a family member/friend to help them out ether.

Like I said not againsted/for it. Like FFL2and3rocks said they can mess up but we could have one to analyze the computer from the settings ( like Raptr does) and adds the computer specs to your profile so others can help troubleshoot eaiser when people ask if they can run a game, rather than wait for a reply on their spec or even get an I don't know what they are.

i doubt any of these system specs tool will be accurate

talking from experience I had Can You Run It and other sites telling me complete BS about how apparently I wouldnt be able to run Biohazard 7 on max with my rig. Low and behold it worked regardless

http://filehippo.com/download_speccy Run it and see what your specs are, then scroll all the way down on the store page of questioned game and see if your specs align to it. When it's done loading create a .txt file and copy and paste all the content you need and uninstall both the program itself and the ccleaner that comes along with it (it's an annoyance)

Valve shouldnt have anything to do with it. The individual game dev, could make some kind of demo to check according to the required specs. Its not realistic, but thats the best way imo.
