Is it OK to play a game by yourself ( single player ) ..and that's it?
I am feeling like the "odd-man-out" at times because I have not entered into any mutli-player or social gaming. I find that I truly enjoy a game for it's playability, story, environments, and I'm really OK doing that all on my own. Single-player style is just the way that I choose to play.

I must admit that I feel as though when I purchase a game I'm missing out on a good chunk of development that was spent on multi-player and co-op modes. I noticed EA's Gibeau's comments about multi-player and I understand his point of view. However, I really enjoy my single player, immersive, story mode campaigns.

Does any one else share my view?

you have to play muti-player to get the full experiance of the game, also you can learn so much about the game by playing on multi-player. everyone has there own playing style they feel comfortable with but you need to give it a go!

Is it ok? In one word: Yes. My point of view is, I don't like people because of the way they can, and sometimes will act, and you know what internet+anonymity often equals. I get hurt easily, and I prefer to play alone most of the time. Sometimes I play something like Borderlands or hack'n'slash games with friends, maybe a game with abundance of servers to choose from (some of them heavily moderated) but that's it. The most enjoyable experience for me is a single player turn based (or pauseable action) tactical and/or roleplaying game. You know, where I can set tactics for NPCs to use, or control a squad of "people I REALLY don't want to lose" and so on. Make decisions alone and pay for their (preferably heavy) consequences, make it so hard for myself that I can barely make it, which I couldn't do if I was teamed with other people. I'm also quite slow gamer, manage my inventory and just take things careful and slow because I WANT to be punished for inaccuracy and overlooking details, so my style doesn't suit most "modern games" that have been made with uhh.. fluid multiplayer experience in mind. I haven't really tried Dead Is Dead modes in multiplayer games with friends... I guess it might be fun, but I simply do not wish to rely on other people or be responsible for another person's happiness in something like that.

I prefer single player games over multiplayer games. I hate having to deal with stupid randoms.

Hooray for Single player games. That is definitely my preference. Someone else listed exactly my kind of game...."I also know that I have found that my particular niche seems to be the single player Action/Adventure/FPS/RPG style." Yup, sounds like me. I have not met a multiplayer game I enjoyed and could play for very long. even the all-co-op, no pvp ones. Most of my Multiplayer (especially MMORPG's, though I love RPG's) experiences have in fact been so bad they have made me not want to ever try it again. Ever. The few that didn't, I quickly grew bored with. Someone else said..." I have more fun playing single player mode than multiplayer ,at least that way I dont get annoyed or frutrated with my lack of skill ,at least I failed to finsh the game on my own accord ". Yup, If I get smooshed, I want to know that it was just me, not someone several levels ahead of me who killed me while I was trying to figure out if I had a weapon, how to equip it, or how to use it. Someone else responded to such an experience by saying the person must not have been a gamer for very long. Actually, my dear, all this anti-cheat stuff is pretty new. When I had most of my bad experiences, there were not a whole lot of MMORPG options (I don't even think the simpler term MMO was in use yet.). In fact, for anyone who remembers/know anything about table games, D & D had been only upgraded to AD & D. Yup, I'm showing my age.

Really, though, would creating a support group for solitary gamers be too terribly oxymoronic? :D

I too, prefer single player over multiplayer. Even on an MMO I tend to keep to my self more often then not. Multiplayer can be fun at times, but single player is what I enjoy the most. As it is, I play MW3 only 1-3 round at a time, then play something else.

Besides, when you have a kid, SP is better because you can pause it without haveing to worry about other people's gaming experience. After all, RL > any game.

@ Alathe:
I TOTALLY agree with your statement:
"Yup, If I get smooshed, I want to know that it was just me, not someone several levels ahead of me who killed me while I was trying to figure out if I had a weapon, how to equip it, or how to use it."

Tried the demo of (i think) Battlefield 3 when it came out in beta..."Oooo, I'm a Beta tester this'll be fun!".
Fun turned out to be. "Your game is now starting...run...hide...check out the new surroundings, take a look at the graphics, controls, TWHACK. You have been sniped by douchebag007." After about 8 times I called it quits.

I've just started The Saboteur now. Great Story, graphics, and SINGLE PLAYER immersion so far.

(Thanks, that felt good to get that out.)

The last 4 games I bought were Fallout 3, Metro 2033, Stalker SOC, Half Life 2, all single player games, If a game has a great multiplayer component cool but I will only buy if it has a great single player mode. If a game is only multiplayer intensive then I feel like it should be F2P

I much prefer single player games, I havn't found a multiplayer game that I really loved since Quake. If I play multiplayer nowadays its usually to make my husband happy by joining something that he wants to play, and most of the multiplayer games that I have in my games list were bought for that reason.

Maybe we should all start our own single player games appreciation group ;-)

SINGLE GAME PLAYERS UNITE !! I'm all for it. :-)

I play a lot of single player games, nothing wrong with that really. If I go online, I don't really have the cycles for doing anything wiht large committments like WoW. While people deride the whole CoD franchise, it's just quick and furious killing. It's a Micheal Bay movie, nothing more nothing less. ANd that's fine for when I'm in the mood for it.

Personally I think too much in modern day gaming is focussed on Online play. Online gaming is fine but games tend to sacrfice single player experiances for online play and thats not neccasary as the good games have taught us. I play single player and online but I do miss games with bots in them which seems to be a dying/dead breed.

Why would it NOT be ok? Who even decides what's ok and what's not, other then myself?

In fact, I very rarely play "multiplayer" games -- and if I do, one of the main questions is whether it can be solo-ed...
