Problem uploading avatar
Hey I had some avatars in the past, but now it just doesn't work anymore. I tried my new avatar like 50 times and it just won't appear. The 184px version is not appearing and in games it won't appear any size. Just the small sizes 64px and 32px are appearing when I upload, but in games no one appears.

The File I'm trying to upload is 184x184 and it never appears, it don't give any error messages either... What can I do ???

Update: This has been fixed.

"Save as..." as a jpeg in MS Paint and give it a new name. Then try uploading it again.

maybe the problem is the original size of the file, anything bigger than normal wont work, try using smaller avatar, try reducing the file size to make it more working, to me happened alot, until i tried that.

nvm... it's not appearing in game... it appeared on the profile, but not in the games... not sure if it has some hours delay to appear in games...

Ok. Here is what I tried:

Many different names.
Different resolutions, sizes, file size, dimensions, and format: jpg, jpeg, png, bmp

All of them are bugged. I'm pretty sure it's on Steam side, or some bug between my connection or Steam, not sure. Maybe it's a corrupted data on my account database.

When the 184p works, the 64p gets bugged and it won't appear in games anyway.

Ok. It worked. Needed to lower a lot the jpg quality. Not sure why this, I used to have 184p 100% quality JPG avatars before. Now Steam is now accepting up to 80 quality. Not sure why though, the file size is almost the same, something like 30kb ... pretty small in my opinion.

I assume you're trying to upload this in the Steam Client?

Have you tried logging into Steam in your web browser and uploading your avatar through that instead?

//EDIT: Or you could just get it working the moment I post this. :P

Yes I tried both client and browser... I'm not sure why when I upload 100% quality bugs out... it was not used to be this way before. With 80% quality it worked though. Thanks for the helps anyway.

EDIT
meh... it's not appearing in the game... I'm so sad...

ok i'm back to square one... it's not working with any of tests... sigh

it's funny... tried so many variations of files already, and it simply don't work... I'm not sure what more options I can do at this point...

tried to upload:
jpg 60 ~ 10kb
jpg 80 ~ 19kb
jpg 90 ~ 25kb
jpg 100 ~ 30kb
png ~ 70kb

jpg both progressive, or baseline with and w/o optimize for browsers... all files uploaded had exact 184x184 and different names, and it's not appearing in profile or games... when it appears the 184, the 64p does not show, if the 64p shows the 32 don't show up...

also tried to clear cache and tried in different browsers... still no luck... such a mistery lol
I'm having the same problem with 64px pics.

Sorry I'm posting on an old thread, but I've discovered what might be your solution. I do a lot of my own artwork, so I'm decently aware of different file types for images.
PNG files support any kind of transparency features in images. If your image has layers to it while it was being created, then it's already got transparency in it. JPG file types do not support transparency, and will merge any existing layers together in the image to bring you the JPG file type.
I ran into the problem recently of Steam not accepting my PNG image because of Transparency in it. I simply saved the image as a JPG instead and it worked. I do see that you've tried different variants of the JPG type, while I'm not well aware of those, I would recommend seeing what the most common variant of JPG is and trying that.
Hope this works out for you. :)
If it doesn't, feel free to contact me and I'll do some more investigating.

I had the exact same ploblem, and I found a resolution!

If your file contains a dot in its name, then Steam thinks that everything after the dot is a part of the filename. Just remove the dot and it will work.

Example:
"hallo.world.png" => "halloworld.png"
