Windows 8.1 RTM Steam Cloud Sync with previously played games NOT WORKING
So, I've got this weird issue...

I've played a number of Steam games back on Windows 7, syncing my progress to the Steam cloud. This weekend, I decided to format my PC and install Windows 8.1 RTM, and now any time I try to launch a game I've played before that has my data in the Steam Cloud, Steam is unable to sync my local files with the ones in the cloud.

This only happens with games I've previously played. I have a number of games I've never got around to playing that I bought on sale in the past that have cloud support and tried those under Windows 8.1 They sync just fine, saving my progress locally and to the cloud. (Verified by the number of bytes stored in the cloud when looking at game properties.) I'm only running into this issue with games I've played on my previous Steam installation with Windows 7.

This is very troubling because I've lost a lot of progress across various games and I'd really like to get back to where I was.

For every game I try to play that has Steam Cloud data from the old machine an error message pops up that simply says, "Steam was unable to sync your files for [game] with the Steam Cloud" and warns about any progress made not saving or losing progress if I click "Play Game" instead of "Cancel".

Has anyone run into this issue and know how to resolve it?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I've encountered this issue before too, where I play a game on Windows 7 and cloud sync, then it doesn't sync right on Windows 8, I've also gotten that same error message. Unfortunately Steam doesn't offically support Windows 8, so any problems you run into while using Windows 8 will probably just be ignored / not fixed.

Well, I hope they address this soon. Windows 8 has been out for a while and Windows 8.1 is public as of next month.

As people buy new PCs, a lot of them will come with Windows 8 and not having Steam Cloud Sync work with games you've played on Windows 7 or another OS is a real problem.

Noticed someone else is having this issue too in another topic...

So it looks like my problems aren't because of Windows 8.1, it looks like the Cloud servers suck for downloading the files from the cloud right now. All connection time outs. The reason Tomb Raider worked is because it never had to download files from the cloud, I only had to upload my new data to the cloud.

All solved in the latest client update. Thanks, Valve/Steam.
