How does steam register games?

Fisrt off i want to point out that i have never started a discussion before on steam so forgive me if this is on the wrong thread.
So i have a question, when i click on "library" and go to all games it says i own 22 games and after counting them it clearly is correct, now, when i go to my profile it says i olnly have 16 games, why is that? granted, not all of my games are installed on my pc but if that were the case then the number on my profile would be much greater and nevertheless, team fortress classic, a game which i have nor installed nor played in my account does appear among the 16 games on my profile, why is that? noteworthy however, 2 of my games (Outlast & Amnesia) as of sept. 2nd have yet to be released and i have 3 games currently in queue of download (none of the aforementioned appear among the 16) could this be the case as to why i'm missing games from my profile? but that would still leave out 1 game, Could anyone clarify?

it is counting your DLC's if u skip dlcs you own 16 games......from what i can see by inspecting your profile and viewing all games.

Fallout: New Vegas
Fallout New Vegas: Courier's Stash
Fallout New Vegas : Dead Money
Fallout New Vegas: Honest Hearts

Certain DLC packs are seperated, thus CAN be counted as games in your profile, but then no be available in Library. As for a game like Fallout: New Vegas, those DLCs in Library are listed within the game properties for that particular game.

Team Fortress Classic was freely bundled with HL1 if memory serves my correct.
But they also have a paid version for those u want it, but don't have Half-Life.

Your profile ultimately has nothing to do with what u have installed. It's an over view of everything u own.

Now some DLCs can come pre-packaged in a "Special Edition" or "Deluxe" version of a game, and thus may not count towards the games counted up in your profile.

If you go to Library > All Games. The ones in White are Installed. The ones in Grey color are owned, but not installed.

I may have a theory to my dilemma.
I said that my library lists 22 games while my profile only lists 16, now, 5 of the missing games (4 of which are free to play, 1 which has yet to be released) i have not yet finished downloading and since i have no play history/time they dont appear on my profile, however, if my math is correct, that would still leave one unaccountable game, my guess is either Team Fortress or outlast, both appear on the 16 games in my profile but i have never played them, so if my calculations are correct then this may be my issue, thanks to those who commented and appologies for my incompetence, feel free to add more insight on the matter.
