Arma 3

FIX - ARMA 3 NOT WORKING/NOT LAUNCHING FROM STEAM
I have been having this problem for probably about two weeks now since I did a fresh install of Windows 7 x64.

When I would try to launch the ARMA 3 alpha from Steam, it would open the "launch game in windowed mode?" window and then immediately close upon choosing. I didn't have ZoneAlarm or any other obstructive programs installed (Zone Alarm and FRAPS are the main ones. If you haven't tried it yet, uninstall Zone Alarm completely and disable FRAPS. If that doesn't work, keep reading.)

I tried every fix, did 3 fresh reinstalls of the game, a reinstall of every single audio and graphics driver on my PC, probably 500 reinstalls of DirectX runtime (Direct 9-11), tried every combination of launch options; NOTHING WORKED. I also tried deleting/replacing loads of directx files in system32, and nothing helped at all.

But then, lo and behold one person figured it out... The Nazgul 9. Here is what he posted, and hopefully everyone else encountering this problem finds this thread.

"I'm posting because I found the REAL reason this is not launching.

If you try and launch Arma 3, and nothing happens, go to the Arma3 application in steamapps/common/arma3.

If you get the XAPOFX1_4.dll error, then this pertains to YOU!

It says the .dll file in C:/Windows/System32 isn't working or damaged. BUT you also have this same file in the SysWOW64 folder. DELETE BOTH THESE .dll files.

THEN go back to your arma3 steam folder, go DirectX/ then find DXSETUP.

RUN the setup, it should restore any missing files. (aka the ones you deleted).

Now try running the arma3 application from the steam FOLDER, not through steam. There should no longer be an error, and steam should open up automatically, and then select run arma3 when promopted. Then Arma3 should run just fine. If it does not, then you have other problems.

However, I've read people missing other .dll files, if this is the case, do the exact same process as mentioned above, however for that other specific .dll file the game has an error with.

I hope this works guys, I'll post this is the other forums.

-Naz

P.S.> the only reason I thought of doing this is because my Skyrim game had the same problem, and I found a walkthrough for Skyrim that basically said the error will occur for System32 file, but the game uses SysWOW64 files, or something like that.... I'm not an expert at all. So I gave it a shot for this and it worked."

Here's the step-by-step for the laymen out there -

Step 1: Find your ARMA 3 folder in your steam directory.
Step 2: Attempt to launch by clicking the ARMA 3 icon in the folder
Step 3: Read the error message and remember/write down which file it complains about
Step 4: Navigate to your C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folders
Step 5: Locate the files that the error was complaining about in each and FOLLOW THIS NEXT STEP CAREFULLY:
-Rename the old files from "<filename>.dll" to "<filename><todaysdate>.old". This will help you keep track of the file if you ever need it again for any reason. Best not to delete this unless you really want to.
-Make sure you rename each file in each directory (syswow64 and system32), renaming just one will leave you with the same issue
Step 6: Navigate to your ARMA 3 folder in your steam directory like in step 1
Step 7: Open the DirectX file there and run the DXSETUP.exe program as administrator
Step 8: Once the DirectX setup is complete, attempt to run the ARMA 3 executable again (just like in step 2)
Step 9: If you get another error, repeat steps 3 through 9 until the game starts up.

Hope this helps!

I appreciate the help. I would love to follow the steps but when i click on the Arma3 icon in my folder, it does nothing. I don't even get any errors. This is doing my head in.

Which of those steps have you tried yet? Have you reinstalled DX11/10/9 or whatever? I ran into another problem when the beta came out, and verifying my game cache and reinstalling directx fixed it for me.

>> DO NOT DELETE SYSTEM32 OR SYSWOW64. This will destroy your Windows installation and you will have to completely reinstall, thus losing all of your files and data....

Your question was a little confusing, but tell me if this helps:

Step 1.) Go to your Steam file (Usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\) and navigate to your Steam\Steamapps\Common\ file. Find the ARMA 3 folder and double click. Double click the Arma3 application and see if there is an error message. WRITE DOWN THE ERROR IT GIVES.

Step 2.) Next, go to your C:\Windows\System32\ folder. Find the file that the error was complaining about. (should be something like d3dx11_20.dll for example). RENAME THE FILE BY ADDING THE DATE (091413) TO THE END.

Step 3.) ONLY IF YOU HAVE 64 BIT WINDOWS INSTALLED: Follow Step 2 for the C:\Windows\SYSWOW64 folder as well.

Step 4.) Re-run the DirectX setup and then repeat from step 1 until the game works.

Hope this helps!

I do not really need ArmA 3. I care about its launcher and why it does not start. I'm looking everywhere for clues about this > <

Help!
I have Windows 10 64-bit, and this error shows up if i play this game in 64-bit mode! But not in x32-bit Mode!
It says: The code execution cannot proceed because VCOMP120.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem!
But I don't want to reinstall that game :c
So, I searched up VCOMP120.dll in the System32 folder, but only found VCOMP100.dll, VCOMp110.dll and VCOMP120.dll.
I didn't found VCOMP120.dll, what should i do?
Bob mr.taeti Nov 1, 2017 @ 2:35pm
down load VCOMP120.dll and put in the game file and it will be fixed

DO NOT DOWNLOAD DLLs FROM THE INTERNET. DO NOT LISTEN TO Mr. Taeti's COMMENT. This is the easiest way for someone to infect your computer with malicious code like cryptolocker.

VCOMP120.dll for 64 bit will be in SysWOW64 folder, not System32. System32 only contains 32-bit libraries.
