Resetting games or creating a second account.
I have been rather annoyed that GOTY versions of games do not reset the game to "as new". I have got Skyrim legendary Edition and want a clean slate start with no achievements or game world saves affecting it. I have tried to create a second steam account, but it just ties itself to my main account. This itself is a concern as i used completely different (and legal) registration details. I suspect that it logs either your IP address or some PC details and automatically merges any different account created.
Can someone give me an explanation of how to either;

1/ Reset Skyrim (or any other game) to a fresh start.

or,

2/ How to successfully create a second account to install different copies of legally bought games.

If it is on the same computer, then it is using the same game files. You would have to use another computer or find a way to have two steam installs at one time as well as two skyrim installs.

The accounts are not merged. Games are just not seperated.

Thanks for the advice. Steam are now not answering (or at least taking a LONG time) to answer my query.
It doesn't seem unreasonable that when you pay twice, or more, for a game that you should expect to play it as a new game.

It may not even be Steams fault. If a game is designed to save the game saves in a shared location... then they will be shared by ANYONE who ever uses that pc. Lots of games these days are doing that, both on and off steam. If they are saved in a personal folder (eg: my documents\gamesave) or an account folder (games\john\gamesave) then they would be personal to that user as any other peoples logged in to OTHER windows accounts can't see that folder.

if you don't want any of the game saves, you can just delete them and they would be gone... but you'd lose them totally.

Cheers Karr and thanks for the info. I may try changing the destination folder for save games. Maybe i should get a seperate PC just for GOTY versions to get that thrill of starting from new again. I know it sounds like whinging, but this was never a problem only a few years ago. You installed a game fresh and got a fresh start. It is something i think Valve should look at, but i am pretty sure they won't lol. My Skyrim Legendary Edition has now sat for a week uninstalled. I will have to decide what to do with it soon. Life, eh?
Cheers,

Just delete your savefiles if you want to get rid of them.
And regarding the achievement reset... is it allowed to mention SAM on this forum? I'm not sure.

(you don't need to buy the game twice or create a second Steam account or buy a second PC to reset your achievements and delete your savefiles)

Thanks Thordred. I am not aware what SAM is. However, a way of resetting achievements is something i am very interested in. Can you tell me more please?

There is a program out there called 'Steam Achivement Manager' - i can't provide a link, but a google should take you straight there.

It is a tool that will let you lock and unlock achivements on Steam games... HOWEVER... there is the possibility of a ban if you use it while on a VAC server and it isn't known how Valve thinks about this tool. At the moment they seem to be 'ignoring' it as it doesn't give you any personal advantage. However, at any point they could turn around and say it isn't allowed and who knows what they would choose to do, either from that point or retrospectively.

It's one of those 'use at your own risk' things.
cool

Many thanks Karr. I will leave it alone for now, as i have too much money invested in games to risk it. Which brings us to the often ignored stranglehold Steam and others have on locked in game registrations. I remember when it was new there was all the usual hogwash about it being "as well as" and not "instead of". In fact, if i remember correctly, it was the community side of it, that was seen as it's most useful function. Even if, to be fair, that was part of the original thinking, it was abandoned a long time ago. I would not choose Steam, or any of theses online digital watchamacallits, but it's Hobsons Choice.
Thank goodness for The Witcher, eh? lol.
Thanks again for the info.

Oh yes, in the spirit of fairness, Steam have now replied to my question.

Awaiting the new Civ V expansion due tomorrow. I realised that i might want to also set this up on my new account. It would be worth buying Civ V again for. I also was thinking, can i go back to vanilla Civ on this account?
Why are such simple choices so hard to do? and so expensive to find out? (rhetorical question)
