3TB Hard Drives & Gaming
A friend and I both have issues with many Steam games that worked perfectly on our systems before hand after switching from a 1TB hard drive to one that was 3TB. I won't bother posting specs because all of the games I will mention worked flawlessly for both of us before and the only difference we made was the size of our HD space. Ever since the upgrade several games including but not limited to Saints Row: The Third, Dead Island, Red Faction: Guerilla, and Batman: Arkham City all refuse to start up now.

A google search has indicated that the hard drive may indeed be the issue because of the size, but it did not give a work around or fix. Games that do still work run just as flawless as before so I do not understand why certain titles are targeted out because of the size of my hard drive.

If anyone has any insight to what may be happening or a possible fix please feel free to contact me or reply to this discussion regarding the issue. :) Thank you for your time.

Is there any chance that the game files didn't move over to your 3tb hard drive correctly and so cannot start?. I suggest making sure all files have been transferred from your old hard drive to your new one. If they have it could be that some got corrupted, if this is the case then I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the games ensuring that the Steam folder they are to be installed into is located in your 3TB drive

Verify game cache.

No need to re-download.

What is your OS? 32 or 64 bit?

64 bit. And I've reinstalled/verified before.

What version of Windows (both version and edition, e.g. Windows 7 Pro) are you running and did you install any software that came with the hard drive? I believe there are some file system issues that occur in some editions of Windows 7 and previous versions of Windows that put some limitations on hard drives that are 3TB or more in size. I wouldn't think that this would only stop some games though. Also is your hard drive just set up as one 3TB partition right now? Also what motherboard do you have if you built your own computer, or what model and year is your computer if it came from a manufacturer? Support for these drives can be reliant on those as well. Another problem and why it may not play certain games may be the file system on that disk. Go to your computer and Right Click on the disk and select properties. Is the listed file system NTFS, FAT, or something else? This seems like something that could definitely affect those games.

If your bios does not fully support a 3T drive the only option is a partition. You need EFI/UEFI BIOS. If you do not have it then you are out of luck and will have to partition the drive. The largest a partition should be is 2.2T to insure the bios will support it.

Have you checked for a bios update?
