What is valves (or steam's) stance of people using VPN's?

In the future i'm gonna be traveling to China/Japan/ and or South Korea to be a English teacher, and I would like to continue to play my games while in these regions, If i do use a VPN to play these games, will there be any negitive repercussions?

Valve discourages the use of a VPN. You can read specifics in the SSA:

You can contact support and see if they can do anything for you. They may be able to flag your account to allow you to play and buy form the US (or other) markets, while traveling.

You shouldn't need a VPN to play your games all your existing games will work fine in those regions except for maybe China. But even there people are using steam so it should be fine. There shouldnt be any need to use a VPN

You may wish to contact support. They only allow purchases from the 'home' country that you've setup and that will conflict with your IP address. Since you're travelling I assume you'll likely continue to use your existing credit card. Let support know your situation and theyll sned you a link via wich you can purchase games in your home country's currency.

Steam will work fine in those countries without any VPN or similar service, if you wish to purchase any titles however you will need to contact Valve to make your account Region Free.
