Are you guys at a university, or on some tightly controlled network? Is Windows using it's internal firewalls?

Safe boot with networking into windows, launch steam there, and it should work. I tried every other solution to this problem, and this is the only thing that worked.

I had the same problem and after hours on google found out that it was due to a broken wifi driver that was installed by Windows update. If you're using a wifi adapter, check to see if windows has recently installed any updates. If so, roll back the driver.

I just got my computer today.. I see what you mean about the windows update, but it seems that I have installed over 100 windows updates today. So yeah, that is kinda out of my options, unless I could get a name of the failed "Windows Update".. Anyways I have been sitting here trying to get this to work, for over 9 hours.. Any help that could fix the problem!

The name of the update is "Ralnik - WLAN - 802.11 USB Wireless LAN Card" (it was released late February) if you installed an update for a wifi adapter, go to "devices and printers" in your Windows start menu, locate your wifi adapter, right click and select properties, click the hardware tab, click properties, click the "change settings" option and there you will see the option to roll back your driver in the "driver" tab. Hope this helps!
