Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again.
Hello all,

Running a fresh install of windows 7 here, with all the updates. When i download the installer from the website, it installs ok and then tries to update. After a pretty random amount of time it says "Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again." Additionally, steampowered.com times out when i try to load it, however i am able to access it via cdn3.steampowered.com. it seems cdn2 is the issue. That may or may not be related.
Things I have tried: reinstalling steam (3x)
deleting clientregistry.blob
disabling antivirus
checking router for blocked sites (none)
running steam as administrator
setting Steam update service to autorun (was set to manual, however after a reboot did not start when i changed it)
using steamTMP
When i run steamTMP, the update finishes correctly, but the program terminates before launching the main window. When i run it again it says the download was invalid.

Does anybody have any idea at all what's going on?

EDIT: I should mention that i've tried all of the above through an ethernet connection as well

Hmmm, I do have a ralink. It doesn't appear i've gotten the update though, as the rollback option is greyed out. I'll try updating. Thanks for the link

Nope, I have no update installed from ralink, and there is no updated driver available

My steam just wont log in due to "vstdlib_s.dll" file being stuck in my antivirus chest in avast, ive added every exception to steam and the file with no luck. This all started about 2 weeks ago so im not realy sure what updated to cause this. The only way i can log in atm is to delete the client regestry blob file everytime i want to connect to steam.

"added as exception to anti virus"
"steam says, no steam network connectivity" when i log in
"delete client regestry is only known way to log in for me atm"

any help or advice from the community would appreciated thanks

ivers, only other thing i could suggest is trying an older ralink driver. found this http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-CARD/Ralink/Ralink-80211n-Wireless-Driver-3090-for-Windows-7-x86.shtml. perhaps because you did a fresh install you started with the new driver that is causing problems

Ever get it figured it out man?
I'm having the same problem. Linksys AE6000 has a Ralink chipset and I can't find an older driver for it which is preventing me from installing/updating steam...
