[SOLVED] [TF2] Failed to load hitsound.wav file probably missing from disk/repostitory
Hi,

Recently I tried editing the pitch of my hitsound according to damage using the 'tf_dingaling_pitchmax' and the "_pitchmin" commands. I didn't like the effect it had, so I got rid of those options by launching the game in '-autoconfig'.

Now, even if hitsounds are enabled, I won't get any noises at all, and when I use the 'play hitsound.wav' command it says:

failed to load hitsound.wav file probably missing from disk/repostitory

I have not tampered with my hitsound at all since I put it in the tf/sound/ui folder and I am genuinely stumped.

I removed the '-autoconfig' launch command before I started it a second time

Things I have already tried:
-restarting steam
-restarting my computer
-restarting TF2
-renaming the hitsound.wav to hitsound (as a wave file)
-verifying the game cache

Thanks for any help!

Try verifying the game cache files. If you do not know how to do this, please take a look at this Steam Support article:
Steam Support -> Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF)

Ok, I'll try that and see what happens.

That didn't work, I still get the message
Try moving that hitsound file completely out of the ui folder. It still might be trying to read that file even with no file extension.

Ok i found a solution. You gotta make sure your .wav file is a 16-bit float and not a 32-bit float, because it doesnt work with 32-bit. This worked for me. Good luck
