You don't have to directly give Steam information. E-mail for example or a virus imbeded in the webpage. It is just a good idea to avoid those kinds of sites.
If the code didn't work, then the site is a scam of one kind for another. That is the only place to activate a game. If what they game you was a game code. There is a wallet code too in the same area.
