Very irritating and beyond frustrating PC Gaming.....
I buy plenty of new PC games....I support the industry yet every game I buy I have to spend hours downloading the rest of the program before I can begin playing. I live in the country and do not have any access to high speed internet. The past 5 50$ + games I have bought have been this way. ALL requiring Steam and ALL needing 2GB+ updates straight out of the box. The latest, which I just received today Omerta needed 400 MB download before I could begin playing.

Why this frustrates me is because of the lack of High Speed Internet. Satellite is not an option out here so I have to rely on 3G. I currently have to pay 50$ for every 8GB downloaded so the past 5 games have cost me 100$ on top of the app purchase itself.

This is not to mention that everytime I launch Steam it take about 8MB of downloading before the app will even launch.

Take a minute and think about all the people that don't have high speed internet yet continue to pour money into the Video Game Industry. It would be nice to get a game and play it straight out of the box for PC.

I feel your pain man though my situation is a bit worse.

I live in Indonesia. High Speed internet is luxury here. If converted to dollar, 1 GB is worth 10 dollars using the best wireless connection. That's simply absurd.

On top of that, games cost more in this country simply because our currency sucks.

50 dollars for Omerta, for example, can get me food for one full month. Imagine that for middle class citizens. Lower class? Forget it.

And like you said, top it off by updates etc etc another gigabyte spent for that. Another dollar burnt.

The reason why piracy is so rampant here. =\ I wish game developers and publishers could differentiate between first world countries and third world countries and set the prices accordingly...

Steam tells you a requirement is Broadband Internet. If you do not have broadband connection then I wouldn't be using Steam at all. Some people have no internet. That is not Steams fault either.

If you are that poor I would think you have bigger problems then how to play video games. If you have to steal to play games then I suggest you move to a better country. How can you own a computer? Sounds like a years worth of pay to me.

Read the conversion issue? Great guy. Posting without reading.
ZeroXXX, I completey understand what you are saying....I wish that the game companies could understand our frustrations and try to tackle the issues in some way. I also understood what you were saying about the conversion issue, in no way were you saying that you were poor but rather trying to express the cost of internet vs the cost of food/living etc.

FaceDown, you offered ZERO help and your post was pretty much worthless. You didn't even seem to really understand anything from mine or ZeroXXX post. It is as if you saw the words on the page but had no idea what they meant.

To further complain, and I use complain because that is how some people will see it, I physically bought the last few games from a physical store here in the US. To list:

1. Omerta
2. Alan Wake Deluxe Edition
3. Call of Duty Black Ops II
4. Dungeons and Dragons - Daggerdale

On most of the boxes it said STEAM is NEEDED for ACTIVATION ONLY. Painfully found this was not the case. All needed at least 500MB downloads before I could even launch the game for single player only. Several needed 5GB +

MY MAIN POINT IS......

If I physically buy a game from a physical store WHY SHOULD I NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY IT IMMEDIATELY under single player?????

Oh and PS...if broadband is a REQUIREMENT for Steam as you say FACEDOWN, why o why does it have a slection for 56k in connection speed for downloads and cloud syncs within Steam.

If your not going to offer positive input or backup for the issue why even bother typing a response.
Yeah, I agree. DRM-free games are great because there's no forced update to play the damn SP. Steam should've allowed us the same. =\

As it stands, we can play, but have to swap to offline mode. GG.

I am not bashing Steam. It's great, but need improvements. I just hope they are willing to listen...
