Purchase required for Non-Community trading? (between 30 days and a year?)
With the latest Steam guard related 15 days wait it seems to keep coming up that people (supposedly) can't trade after 15 days still, and more often than not these seem to be people with few to no paid games on their account.

So, my own assumption was that the new trading rule for community trading, that the account needs a purchase between 30 days and 1 year ago, also applies for non community trading (like TF2/DOTA etc). However, I've seen no confirmation of it. Does anyone know for a fact this is true or not true? I seem to have missed it.

For non-community trading Steam support mentions this period as what you need to trade an item immediately after you get it:

That only applies to purchased gifts, Pheace is talking about the ability to trade. There are loads of other stuff that can be traded and have no cooldown, i.e. ingame item drops.

I know. I just wanted to help Phease bump, because I'd like to see an answer from a Valve person as well. That link is all I can come up with.

I'd like to see an official answer as well. The error message you get doesn't suggest you need to make a purchase, just that you need to have Steam Guard on for 15 days. That's misleading.

Either way, what if we activate a gift on that account would that count as a purchase? It would be a real pain in the arse if we had to purchase something every year just to be able to trade. It's ok if that's needed in order to use the Market but outside that? Why?

Don't take my word on it, because i don't remember the exact dates, but i've been trading with an alt account of mine, which had a purchased game (TF2 Premium, via MannCo Purchase) with less than 30 days within the premium purchase without issue.
I remember i just had to wait for the items cooldown to become tradable (a few days) and traded them back to my acc. with no problem. It all happened after the Marketplace was released

However. I suspect it may be a newly added requeriment, at the light of current people issues with trading, and we are withnessing another case of Valve's [ironic]Lightning speed[/ironic] on updating Knowledge base articles and [ironic]highly descriptive[/ironic] error messages.

Well I have some alts that I activated some games on (haven't directly purchased anything) and I can trade with them. Other alts I've created at the very same time, without any game activated are limited. They all have Steam Guard enabled for a long time. So I'm not exactly sure how it works.

Alright for anyone still wondering, I finally have the answer. Even though it's different from the official one: http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/846940248839559445/?tscn=1358967331#c864956554675656043

In order to be able to trade you're not required to have made a purchase more than 30 days ago. But you need a non-limited account and wait 15 days with Steam Guard enabled.

To get a non-limited account, either purchase something from the store or activate any gift (I think any key works too), a Dota 2 invite is perfect. The most important part is that the 15 days is counted from the moment you activate that gift. In other words if you never activated or purchased a game on your account but had Steam Guard on you will still have to wait 15 days once you put a game on your account.

That's actually informative. I'd rep you if I could.

If you've already on your account, no.

To clarify: according to your community page, you've TF2, DOTA2 and Blacklight: Retribution on your account. As they are all F2P games (DOTA2 technically isn't but I won't count on it, seeing how is now distributed among the community), your account should be limited.

Is it (can you add friend or only accept requests for example)?

Someone already asked, but can you add friends with the "Add friend" button? If your account is limited a window will pop up that you can't.

About Dota 2, anybody can install it but you still need an invite to play it. I assume what you have is the spectator client which is used to watch matches not to play. If you need an invite just initiate a trade with this bot and type "give dota":
