Steam and Football Manager 2013 with Win7
Recently bought FM13 and had it installed on Win XP without any problems. Uninstalled FM13, upgraded my PC to Win7 and then went for a new install. I'm now being told that there isn't enough space on my PC - there's 226Gb of free space!!

I've emailed Steam support, but haven't had a response in 5 days, which is poor to say the least.

I've tried installing from disc and have also tried copying the entire disc to my hard-drive to re-run it. Each time I get the same error - not enough disc space.

Any thoughts?

Keep your thread in one section. Don't post it in every section you find as it's often going to get them ALL closed.
Fair point, apologies. I've had a ticket open with Steam for 5 days and only received 1, rather useless response from them, so I'm somewhat exasperated and am at the end of my tether.

I had posted a few days ago in one forum here, but for some reason I can no longer find my original post.

I'm also trying other websites in the vague hope that someone might respond.
Some additional information:

I've tried everything I can think of:
1) installing to C:\Steam, as opposed to C:\Program Files (x86) etc....
2) copying the entire disc locally to eg C:\Steam and retrying the install
3) running the entire install from Steam as opposed to the CD/DVD drive
4) uninstall, re-installing, making sure I'd cleared out all registry settings.

Am now at a complete loss.
Thanks Fred. I think I've tried that before, but to be honest I've tried so many variations of installation, I gave it another go.

I did a full install, using the instructions, incl checking the registry and removing entries for Valve.

I then ran the install again. I've only got one drive (C:\), so installed it there and given that it's Win7, it installed it to Program Files (x86), under Steam.

As previously, Steam itself installed without issue, but the installation of FM13 failed yet again with the same error message.

Interestingly, when I contacted Steam Support (for the 7th time), they responded with:

"Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

This problem can occur when Steam is installed to a path that contains characters not found in the English alphabet.

If your installation path contains such characters, this may be the cause of your issue.

You may need to move your Steam installation to "C:\Steam" or something similar.

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you."

I've also tried Steam's suggestion and had the same failure.

I'm hoping I'm not going to have to wait another 6 days for a response from Steam.

Just wondering if others have had similar install problems and/or similar delayed responses from Steam?

Try asking in the game Developers forum. Technicaly Steam doesn't offer support for a game, only the Steam service. The Developers may be able to help you better (and usualy faster).

Thanks Spawn for the suggestion. However, Zefar, earlier in the post said to keep it to one forum only.
Thanks Fred, I've tried that. Fingers crossed.

Out of interest, do people normally find that Steam Support is incredibly poor?
I've managed to install FM11, without Steam - the game was purchased on a DVD in same manner as FM13. All done on Win7 without issue.

Is there a way to install FM13 without Steam? It just appears that Steam is the problem here, but I might be wrong.

Really appreciate the help Fred. Don't seem to be able to attach images here though.
I think this will show you the error I've been getting:

Hi Fred

I got the following information from Steam themselves today:

Hello,

This game cannot be installed without Steam.

Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the contents of this folder except:

The Steamapps folder and Steam.exe (If 'exe' is not visible, look for the black and white Steam icon)

Restart your computer.

Then, you will need to launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Unfortunately, this didn't work and so I've replied to Steam.

Go to the "steamapps" directory and remove and remove th Football Manager 2013 file that ends with ".ncf". [/quote]

I've been to the steamapps folder and the file mentioned doesn't exist. All that's in there is:
sourceinit.gcf
winui.gcf

There are also two folders:
sourcemods
downloading

Both of these folders are empty.
Thanks again.
I think the problem might be related to access permissions on the folders. I've heard that lack of user rights to folders and files within the folder Steam gives exactly the same result that I'm receiving.

The question is, whilst I've given myself full persmission to Steam and Steam Apps, it's still giving the same error.
I've checked the logs and in the contet log I found the following:
Update job for app 207890 canceled: Failed to preallocate file "C:\Steam\steamapps\downloading\207890\helper.dll" (3758080 bytes) (Not enough disk space)
