Valve Complete Pack
Hey guys, I have a quick question for you. I recently bought the Fallout pack when it came on sale. I had already owned Fallout, but I still saved money by buying all three games together. I figured that I could give the extra copy of Fallout to a friend or use it to trade, but then discovered that I would not receive an extra copy of the first game. I concluded that you must only get extra copies of games you own if it specifically says so in the bundle details. Now, with summer coming up, Steam will do their annual summer sale, and I noticed that during their summer and winter sales, Valve likes to make their own games pretty cheap. I already own some Valve games, so if I got the Valve Collection, would I receive extra copies of the games I already own?

If you buy the valve complete pack, you will receive an extra copy of Half Life 2 ( only if you already own it), and left for dead 2 I beleive. There is a help article about it somewhere on steam. I'll find it and tell you exactly what it says
Extra copies will only be issued as a special promotion in the following specific cases:

Users who own "Left 4 Dead" and then go on to purchase "Left 4 Dead + Left 4 Dead 2 Bundle" will receive an extra copy of "Left 4 Dead"
Users who own “Half-Life 2” and go on to purchase “The Orange Box” or the "Valve Complete Pack" will receive an extra copy of “Half-Life 2”.
Users who own “Half-Life 2: Episode One” and then go on to purchase the "Half-Life 2: Episode Pack”, “Valve Complete Pack” or “The Orange Box” will receive an extra copy of “Half-Life 2: Episode One”.
Users who own "Dawn of War II"and then go on to purchase "Dawn of War II Gold Edition" will receive an extra copy of "Dawn of War II"
Users who purchase the available four packs for specific Steam titles will receive three extra copies of that title to gift to friends.
Extra copies may apply as a part of some limited time promotions. In that case, information on what will be included with your purchase will be listed on the storefront's transaction page.
These special promotions will allow you to send a gift pass for your extra copy to a friend who does not already own the game.
These promotion do not apply to any games other than those specifically listed.

Limitations

“Half-Life 2” and “Half-Life 2: Episode One” are only eligible to receive extra copies once.
For example, if you own “Half-Life 2” and/or ”Half-Life 2: Episode One” and receive extra copies for your purchase of “The Orange Box”, you will not receive additional extra copies if you then go on to purchase the “Valve Complete Pack”.

Alrighty, thank you for the information! It's kind of a bummer, I already have Left 4 Dead 2, Portal, Portal 2, Counter Strike Source, and Garry's Mod, and a couple others. If the Valve Complete Pack went on sale for $50 It'd still be worth it to buy it for all of the Half-Lifes, Dota 2, and CS:GO, but I wish I could give my friends the games I already own :(

It does. You don't get a discount on a package if you own some of the games.

Most often is is a better value to vuy the package then the games individualy.

They do this since the package already tends to be a good deal.
