Vanilla Installation
I want to re install a game with the vanilla files and settings. Uninstalling the game and deleting all the local data is not working. It still loads back in with traces of the mod. I lost my backups of the files.

Uninstalling a game within the steam client will still leave the folder and any custom content that you had installed yourself. Just delete those manually from your steamapps folder and you're good to go if you reinstall (default is Program Files x86 > Steam > Steamapps > Common).

Thanks for the response, I have tried that avenue though. Not only that but I also deleted the info manually inside the Launcher file, and the weird file in user/documents/games/... It keeps coming back!

What game are you talking about? What may help a bit.

Hmm, confusing. Something that's been stored on the cloud or tied to the Steam account somehow, like Workshop subscription perhaps? Maybe even a download/mod manager for something that's still got modded profiles set? As Spawn of Totoro said, knowing which game would help a fair bit with that.

Can't think of anything off the top of my head that has mods installed in the Documents folder or elsewhere so it's likely that loose files aren't the cause from the sound of it..

Last time I posted what game it was my thread was moved. But it is Far Cry 3, and it was an overhaul mod that replaced 4 files, patch.fat and .dat and dx files. i lost my backups and now even if i delete uplay, the common files, and any other trace of the game and uninstall everything the mod still remains. as well as my save files. my guess is it is uplay. but they have not answered my ticked in 4 days. just waiting and trying to get info.

Uplay games have their own cloud feature I think, so maybe something tied to data or the saves stored in the cloud is the cause.. I know it's not integrated into steam cloud anyway, but the fact that it's a recurring problem even after reinstalling makes it look like something stored on the servers.

I'd say that Ubi support is the way to go there, maybe they can help you or at least purge the bad data from the cloud (if that is indeed the problem) for you so you can start fresh or something.

Other than that I'm not sure what could help, I never really modded Far Cry 3 much, just a couple tweaks here and there in config etc, so haven't had experience with the mods you used, sorry :/
