Credit Card Declined, but still charged. HELP!
Hey guys, I was planning on buying Black Ops II and I put my information in knowing I had well over enough to purchase the game in my account. I went to purchase and it said my card was declined to I proceeded to restart the process to encounter the same problem, my card was declined. Then I decided to check my bank account to make sure I was'nt delusional and thinking I had more money then I did, turns out I was charged twice for putting in my information in again thinking I was doing something wrong. And worse comes to worse I checked to see if Black Ops II was downloading or was at least preparing to download and it wants me to purchase the game again. Any help would be appreciated. I just would like one of the charges refunded and a dowload to the game.

I would contact your credit card company to find out why it's saying it was declined. It you're looking at something such as online banking, it is very possible those are not cleared "charges" but rather authorizations that will fall off. For example, if you try to charge $10 to a card, then give a bad zip code. It will still often show a $10 hold/authorization on your card that will look like a charge, but that charge will usually fall off in a day or so when the vendor does not hand in the cleared reciept.

Often something like this is incorrect billing information, it doesn't even have to be a major mistake either. It's also common if the bank can see it was a declined charge and has an authorization hold, your bank can remove that hold and make the funds available again as well as tell you the error that caused the decline.

Okay, thank you for all the help I appreciate it. I contacted my credit card company and they removed one of the charges and I have to call back tomorrow and dispute it again to get it removed. Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

Yes do NOT dispute charges that went through.
Removing a HOLD is WAY different than DISPUTING an actual charge.

If your credit card company is telling you the charge has gone through, than that isn't an authorization and you need to submit a ticket to support with a screen shot of the transaction from your online banking or at least get all the information from it from your bank.

If the charge went through and is not an authorization, please give Valve the chance to fix it. Most of the time if you don't have the product they will not claim their purchase from your bank and that charge would fall off on it's own.

Disputes are like saying they ripped you off. Never do that unless a merchant actually rips you off and is unwilling to resolve it.

Yeah I know not to dispute with valve, I have to dispute it with the credit card company. I already submitted a ticket to Valve and have been waiting over 30 hours for a response. I am generally aggravated with steam for not resolving this issue though. I wouldnt be as aggravated if I got to download the game and then i could just reverse on transaction and get my $59.99 back.

I spoke to someone at Valve earlier and she said they are operating on a skeleton crew this week so it's likely just that they are backed up. My account was stolen Thursday night and I just got it back like 5 minutes ago.

If you dispute the charge with your bank and Valve had recived the money, the that will lock your account.

You should have tried contacting Support first.

Chances are that the charge would have fallen off before Support got back to you as it seems more like a hold then a charge.

DO NOT DISPUTE THE CHARGE WITH THE CC COMPANY

Chargebacks are a LAST RESORT effort. They are NOT A REFUND MECHANISM

You should be talking with Steam SUpport FIRST.

If you chargeback it WILL RESULT in your account being suspended in some way.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
