Why wont Xpadder work with Steam???
Short and simple problem needing a short and simple solution.

Basically I bought a third party controller spent 2 days and finally got it working through xpadder, only problem is that it wont work on anything steam related. For example when I simply have the steam window open it wont work but as soon as I minimize it it does. The only way I could get it to work in a game (like Portal 2) I made the xpadder layout file open with Portal 2, but then Portal 2 said "NO STEAM" at the main menu and wont let me play.

So please can someone tell me what to do? Is there a console command or setting I need to change? I've been trying to get this thing working for so long I'm about to throw it through a window.

You will have to ask the Xpadder Developers and/or in their forums.

I don't think I can post anywhere on the forums, all their posts seem locked for reading only. But now I have fixed it and I'm still left with one problem you guys can solve. At first the controller seemed to be using 2 control schemes at once. The official faulty one where all the buttons are wrong and the xpadder layout. So both A and Y were making me jump, while before it was only Y. So I fixed that by typing "exec undo360controller" into the console, but now Right Trigger is making the game pause, as well as shooting a portal. Is there simply a console command I can enter to prevent this?

I need step by step detailed instructions on how to make xpadder work inside steam for terraria and portal 2 both. I am high functioning austistic that once my brain has learned something it is locked that way forever and can never relearn something a new way.
Which means the keyboard is always and exclusively the alphabet, I've had ppl try to teach me how to play keyboard commanded games for over 20 years to the point of causing seizures when try to think of it other than alphabet.
I also learned video games back when Tank and Pong were brand new arcade games with right hand joystick, left hand fire buttons. So when Donkey Kong came out switching hands for those things it ruined my life and could no longer play games unless it was all exclusively mouse point and click.
Recently I was gifted with an xbox 360 controller for right hand joystick and xpadder so I can configure keyboard games to the controller pad. Friends bought me Portal 2 and Terraria so I could learn how to use the control pad while playing these games with them.....
Except for one MAJOR PROBLEM!!!!
Steam wont let xpadder move keyboard commands to controller!!!!
So my friends spent a total of $160.00 for hardware, software, rush delivery and games on Steam so I could finally play with them and Steam wont provide one freaking piece of solid information on how to make xpadder work in the games here.
If I don't get a direct answer with specifics on how to fix that DOESN'T tell me to go ask someone else that has already told me the problem exists inside steam since xpadder works perfectly in other online games....
I will be demanding a full refund for all my steam games, plus compensation for the controller, the xpadder and the rush shipping since its all useless to me since it was bought to use exclusively with steam games.
You have 5pm EST friday May 24, 2013 to provide specific detailed step by step solutions that work or you will be hearing from the Colorado Cross Disabilities Attorneys Association for discrimination against the disabled from being able to use and play your games.

Hi I've also struggled to get xpadder to work. I can tell you what finally worked for me. Xpadder 5.7 works anything newer does not. When you go to install it right click it and run as administrator. Follow the set up instructions that are avaible on youtube. Leave xpadder open on your desktop when you start playing a game on steam. You can alt+tab to go back and forth between the two to make adjustments the control settings. I almost gave up trying to get it to work but with 5.7 is was very easy (no scripts, no changing files). If you have a newer version run start task manager go to process find xpadder and stop it and then delete all it's files. For some reason it did not show up for un install in my control panel.

Xpadder just sends keystrokes and does not actually emulate a Xinput device properly

You need to use x360ce if you want proper xinput emulations.
