Just make your SG account completely unique, nothing to do with your Steam login or contact info...
Its a good site
The whole point about "login through Steam", or the more general OpenID, is that Steam confirms that you know the password for the Steam User ID that you claim is yours. Nothing else -- in particular, it won't TELL them the password, or even your login name, it will only confirm that you are using a valid Steam account.
Steamgifts in particular wants you to set your profile to "public", at least for a while. Again, this is because they aren't somehow hacking your account -- they can only access public information, and since they want to be reasonably sure you're not using throwaway accounts to enter the raffles they want to take a look at your game collection. I was actually surprised that my former "Steam users only" setting didn't work, as I had expected they could at least "be" a Steam user to access the data, but apparently the Steam API doesn't do that and they didn't want to roll their own software that basically clicks on the website buttons to access your profile.
