You can't "gift" a Key.
You can only gift games, which are bought as such (which will then be in your inventory).

You can only send your brother that key elsewhere and he has to manually activate it via the Steam-Client.

I don't know if i understand the question correctly, but if you want to buy a game and gift it to someone afterwards, you have the option "buy as gift" which will then give you the option to either directly gift it via e-mail or to put it into your inventory, to gift it later.

Hi Pingu,

As meatbug says, to go about this you'll need to purchase the game as a gift. To do this, after you add a game to your shopping cart, when you view your cart you will see the "purchase as a gift" option. When you purchase the item as a gift you'll have a couple of options, you can send it directly through Steam and your brother would receive it through the cleint with a message you write. The other option is to store it in your inventory, in which case you'd need to trade it.

If you buy a gift through Steam, you do not get a key. You can just send the game. When he activated the game, his account generates a key for it, if one is needed.

If you buy a retail game form a store it may contain a Steam key.

You don't get a code. Just send the item from your inventory.

Sorry if I'm bringing this back from the dead again, but anything you win on steamgifts MUST be added to the same account you logged in with. If you don't, you are breaking a major rule and many people will blacklist you and you may be banned if you do it enough.
