Sound stops working after a little ONLY in steam games?
Hey guys. I have been having this problem with a lot of steam games. Most of the games that i have played on steam actually. I don't have this problem with world of warcraft. It seems to only happen in Steam. When i go into a game, like Counter Strike Source, the sound works perfect for about 4-5 minutes then the game freezes for just a second and the sound cuts out. If i go into the audio settings ingame and say i change the sound type to 2 Speaker instead of headphones, then the sound will come back for another 3 minutes and cut out again. Then i can change it back and it will work again etc. This does not happen in anything else other than steam games. It works perfectly on youtube and i can listen to music and watch twitch tv streams hours on end. Ive been having this problem for a while now. If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I'd be inclined to suspect your audio drivers here, So, reinstall them and/or check they're up -to-date (if you don't know how to do this, you'd need to look on your PC manufacturer's website for them, or ask back here).

Try launching your games without steam and see if the problem persists.

To launch a steam-purchased game without steam:

1. exit Steam completly (make sure it's not running)
2. navigate to your steam program files folder (assuming youre on pc and not mac) [program files > steam > steamapps > common]
3. open the folder of a game with known issues
4. locate the .exe file to run the game (its not always in an obvious spot so you might have to do a search using '*.exe' [without the quotes] to find it)
5. run the game

If audio problems stop at this point then it's likely an issue with your steam installation and you'll have to uninstall and reinstall steam again.

If they dont stop then I have to agree with {crunchyfrog} and request that you update or reinstall your audio drivers.

i have a sever issue that is a complete mistery to me , i had pcs for years fixed them so i know my thing around them, but recently i got a issue with sound that i must be the only one in the planet with it(unlucky me)

so the issue is when i start a game after some seconds sound stops,if i minimize it it comes back then after 4 or 5 minutes stops again, sometimes it stops and does not come back unless i reboot.

now IF SOMEONE says its a driver issue please dont answer ok? its not

i have installed new and old drivers to test , tested to see if there was another app in the background that was making conflict , disabled al special effects and whatsoever , clean install of driver(deep clean) updated everything in hopes of being conflict, installed windows updates, disabled all other audio devices including nividia's hd audio, scanned for hardware issues ,troubleshooter...nothing

the sound system is realtek

i even though well the sound system is just behind the gpu so maybe moving the gpu to the 2 slot to see if its a cooling issue*? nothing

i have followed every tip from other friends and web and still nothing

if anyone can find a solution for my issue i will give you a game that values 40euro

as you may see im tired and reached the point of 0 freaking ideas

my system is

mobo*x570 taichi
cpu * ryzen 3900x
gpu* gtx 1080 ti ampere extreme
rm850x w corsair
32 gb 3600 mhz

The only time I've ever seen an issue like that is when I've used a secondary mirrored monitor or TV.

I've had especially older games do that. I'll set the audio to the TV, and the image to the TV, and sure enough it'll start the game, then a few seconds later the sound stops.

It was a truly annoying situation, and the most bizarre thing about it was that it happened with a number of older games. But ater I ran them a few times it just stops doing it, and the sound carries on as normal on the TV.

I truly don't know what to tell you.

i have done everything possible and im out of ideas

but strange is , it stops almost in the begining then strats and pops , then if i minimize the game it pops always 2 times and sound is back, after 4 to 5 minutes it stops again, it infuriating!

Hmm, if it's popping like that, then I would suspect it's going to be a hardware issue.

The fact that you've gone all in on the drivers and it's not resolved pretty much leaves it there.

There's not much you can do except get a new sound device. I had a laptop once that had it's soundcard fail and I used a mixer to process the sound.

If your PC has an integrated GPU try disabling your 1080 Ti and using the integrated one. Try to run some of the counter strike games and try how it works.

Realtek sound has given me problems in the past too. For instance, when I was trying to play Star Wars Battlefront II (Classic) the game would close without warning when using realtek audio. Back then I would fix that by plugging a mic or using a USB headphone + mic set that I had.
Once I upgraded my old motherboard and left behind the realtek sound (Now using NVidia HD Audio) this never happened again. I'm using a Geforce 210 GPU (Horrible, I know) but it still works and that issue never appeared again

tried that to, disabling nvidia audio on device manager, but today i saw something , while the audio was jumping the audio jack disappeared and reappeared as the sound was popping in and out and then all the jacks went missing , leaving a error message of it being removed , so already message the store where i bought it and im taking it tomorrow
