Steam keeps crashing/disconnecting?
Why would this happen?

I've reinstalled steam so I have no idea why the games Ive payed for shouldn't work. Why do I even need steam? leach.

It could be any number of things, but the first things I would look at are your firewall (do you have it configured correctly?) and your connection (is it reliable? Do you have issues with other internet utlities?)

You need Steam to run most of the games as it is a form of DRM. There are some that don't need Steam running, but they are the exceptio rather than the rule.

I do have the ports open and I've rebooted the router. As far as connection goes, I'm getting 0 jitter in the day but in peak time that goes up to 1. 0% packetloss and fullspeed all day and a small slow down in peak time but not so much that I dont get full speed of 72.5 mbps down and 19mbps upload.

Its not like I cant connect to games. Some times I play for a while before it happens and some times it crashes/freezes the game as soon as I connect. When I get back into windows steam would have stopped fully or locked up and a restart of windows is needed to get steam working.

Hmm, in that case, if it's happening with different games, I'd be inclined to think it may be a hardware issue you're having (such as hard drive issues). Have you reinstalled Steam, by any chance (remembering to NOT delete your game data)?

Aside from that, without further data, it'll be hard to pin down.

By all means if you have anything to add, please do furnish us.

Yes, when I re-installed steam I put it on my system SSD and installed the games on a my gaming drive.

But dont seem to have a read errors on the SSD's. I also run GW2 on the game drive and I have no problems with that.

I had a problem very similar to yours when I installed steam on my new computer. It turned out windows applied a compatibility mode on steam within the registry. Maybe this will help you out http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=153387315

This is out of my depth, but unless my memory is playing silly buggers (which is quite possible), I think the reason might be that Steam is on the SSD - maybe it's too fast compared to the other drive?

Why not try installing Steam on the "gaming" drive and keep it with the game themselves?

The registry fix didnt help. Didnt find a thing, but thanks anyways TheEntropy.

crunchyfrog, I have only even installed steam on SSD's. I only use HD's for storage.

I dont normaly need to ask for help, I enjoy fixing things but I dont even know whats wrong here. To me steam seems to be the problem, I think its lossing connection and the games dependent on steam freez. But steam seems to crash and freez up.

Found this in the steam dir "steam.txt"

I assume you reinstalled windows on the new SSD and this is when it started happening? Where did you get the NIC driver? Is it a Microsoft driver? If it is that is a good place to start. Get the correct NIC driver. Windows loves to install crappy NIC drivers.

Nothing has changed. I only reinstalled steam as an attempt to fix the problem. I installed steam on the C driver with the OS this time as it was on the drive I have my games on before. I reinstalled War of the Roses on the game drive also SSD.

Also found this in windows even viewer:

A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Steam Client Service service to connect.

You never answered my question. Something changed or Steam would be working.

I can't really add anything more to what I've said, as I'm out of my depth here. Sorry - hope you do get it sorted soon though.

Couldnt agree more. It makes no logical sense to just stop working. The only one thing thats happened since the last time it was working fine, I got a steam community ban but didnt play a single steam game in the 6 month ban time.

I would try a manual removal of steam. If I understand this correctly it happened after you moved the client to the C: drive?

as a last resort.
Exit Steam.
Navigate to your Steam directory. (Typically C:\Program Files\Steam or C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam
If you wish to save your game files for a future installation of Steam, copy your steamapps folder outside of your Steam directory.
Delete all of the contents of your Steam directory.
Go to Start > Run and type in regedit.
For 32-bit operating systems:
In the left-hand column of your registry editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve\.

Right-click on Valve and select Delete.

For 64-bit operating systems:
In the left-hand column of your registry editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve\.

Right-click on Valve and select Delete.
In the left-hand column of your registry editor, navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam.
Right-click on Valve select Delete.
Close your Registry Editor.

Then reinstall and try it once more.
