I deleted steam, it deleted my games, but it did not delete the space it took up!
so I deleted steam and re-installed it, and of course it deleted my games, but it did not delete the space it took up on my computer, so I had to install those games, with a small amount of space left on my computer, my computer is now really slow, so is it possible for me to get back all that space?

Are you talking about hard drive space or system memory? Memory is cleared with a reboot of your pc - if it is hard drive space then you need to run a disk check for errors and probably defragment your hardrive.

err... yeah hard drive space, no idea what I was talking about there. I am not a pro at computers, I just play computer games, so ummm.... how may I do that? And by that I mean disk check.

On you desktop, double click on the Computer/My computer icon - in the folder that comes up, right click on the hard drive, select properties then go to the Tools tab and there should be options for checking the drive for errors and defragmenting.

Depending on the size of your hard drive it can take a long time so I usually find it best to leave it working overnight

Before you spend time on scans, are you absolutlely certain that the contents of your \Steam\steamapps\ folder does not contain any of your former/uninstalled game files? Did you re-install into a new directory? If so, make sure you check the old file path for these files.

In a situation like this, it's always best to verify that the files are really gone rather than assuming they were removed with an uninstall.

C:\Program Files (x86)

If the Steam folder is there, delete it.

If he has reinstalled to the same location then he doesn't want to be deleting his entire steam folder.

yes, I don't want to delete all my games, unless there is a way to save my memory (I am aware that it does not delete memory from online games) so actually I see no problem

Go to "x:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common".

That is where your games will be stored.

am I able to make a back-up for these saveS?
crunchyfrog Oct 10, 2013 @ 1:39pm
Backing up saves can be a bit messy as different games store them in different places.

I recommend using a utility like GameSaveManager, which when run, will search for your game saves. You can them easily back them up on a whim.
