Download speed stuck at 1MB/s
I tried everything that you can find online, on the support wiki on reddit or in other forums, clearing the browser cache fixed it for a short time, the problem returned just a few hours after i fixed it.

The download speed on other launchers is my usual 10-12MB/s, steam is the only one that is so slow, it started it yesterday, out of nowhere while steam was downloading, my anti-virus is already completly ignoring steam, my IP and DNS is flushed, i reinstalled it via deleting everything but SteamAppdata, Userdata and the EXE, i cleared every cashe, restarted my router, my pc and steam, changing the server didn't help, the German Frankfurt Server isn't under any stress according to steam stats.

I'm at the end of my wits, i don't know what to do.

Has anybody a fix for this?

Yup, learn to region dance.

Downloads are not like online gaming. Ping isn't relevant. So it does not matter WHERE you download from.

The couple of weeks after a sale are traditionally slow, which is where we're at now.

So go to Google, find out where in the world is currently around 2 to 4 am in the morning and try picking some of those countries as your download region. Alter to taste.

Dude, i already said that changing servers doesn't do anything for me! Maybe read the post before commenting on it...

I have read this morning, Germany has currently a huge issue with Fiber-tech (Glasfaser) etc.

But that would influence more than just steam downloading wouldn't it? I can download just fine on anyother launcher or through my browser, my internet is okay, steam just downloads are just stuck at 1MB/s.

Got a new i7 14700k, all m2 drives. Steam downloads at max 1 MB/s.

Epic is downloading full-speed.

Thought it has to do with my new machine but now I'm not so sure anymore.

I also doubt it's my rig, nothing is even near being under any kind of stress, even my old HDDs aren't really under any stress because steam doesn't download past 1MB/s, everyother launcher uses my power to the fullest.

Many Steam users are currently complaining about download speeds if you check the Steam forums. No idea, all is ok and runs fast on me...

My preferred Steam server is set to Frankfurt/Main.

There are also 2 options to clean Steam cache: the download cache (Downloads Tab) and delete web browser data (In Game Tab). This might help.

Edit_01:
I have just tested the speeds by downloading No Mans Sky.. full speed, no issues.

Edit_02:
Download has just finished after 10 mins as predicted by Steam..

Not true or either a short-lived issue. My fiber line (E.ON highspeed) is up and running.

Well, I highly guess it really depends on various and/or specific Regions and server clusters.. isnt it ... Telling or mentioning "Not True" to me is short-sighted ..

Just read some german news though the web before writing some sort of BS like this..

I dont use FIber, and my speeds and connections are all without any issues, too ..

My fiber line terminates in Frankfurt (Main). Downloading from Steam right now with full speed (~100 MByte/s) as expected. I think the issue is down to the OP, it's not an outage.

Steam is very I/O intensive - it downloads encrypted and compressed diff chunks, decrypts them, then decompresses them. Thenafter, Steam stores a backup copy of the file pre-patch before applying the diff (creating another file), then deletes the backup copy.

Download speed is limited by:

* Your storage device's I/O capabilities
* Your CPU
* Your antivirus or other ring 0 kernel driver's (Firewall, device drivers, anti-cheats, ...) I/O efficiency
* Your ISP's peering agreements and infrastructure.

Pick one or multiple.

During past 2~3 days, dozen of steam users have complained about low speeds on Steam. And the majority comes form Germany.. Just check the forums..

Steam Support -
Slow Downloads and Connection to Content Servers

https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/5AC5-8056-E88F-F3FF

Sometimes even a restart of your Router might help, so it reconnects to a more stable server.

I would be affected GENERALLY (all apps, not just Steam) if that was the case, I didn't notice anything like that. My line is attached to a Frankfurt backbone, therefore would have been affected if there was a long outage.

I did eveything in that guide, it sadly didn't help, my PC doesn't seem to be the problem my drives aren't under any stress because steam downloads at 1MB/s and they can keep up without a problem, i think the problem is either steam doing something weird or something other outside of my controll is causing this.

If there are other people complaining from germany, it probably will go away in a few days, i probably just had bad luck to be one of the few affected.

I just set up a WireGuard connection (VPN) to a friend who uses NetCologne and it downloads with max speeds.

Resetting the WireGuard connection and "ipconfig /flushdns" and I have the problem again.

So seems to be ISP related?

Yes Telekom is my internet provider

There are always people 'complaining' that steam is slow

Its never steam. Its always always something else

You are again likely saturating your disk IO. You need to look at task manaer nd see hwat your CPU and disk wait times are. You are likely hitting 100% wait times on your disk

I downloaded GTAV, while playing Warhammer 3, and I was consistently getting 60-70MB/sec. I was pretty much CPU limited at that point, steam was using about 30% CPU to decrypt the download
