The problem I've had with many of them is that over the years they've added new features and they can be wonky and clumsy to the point of frustration sometimes. If they'd spent a little more time n the oven then they'd be perfectly fine.
For example, Lego Lord of the Rings I think is a great progression and fine game. It offers a neat device of running through the world as a kind of fluid hub before you take on each level. It also has the side attributes of being able to switch characters in a different party, or hunt down materials for making items.
But it has an expense of doing these things. Problems still remain in the engine where triggering a prompt can be extremely wonky, you can still get stuck on certain things, and just sometimes things just don't work. Silly little frsutrations that needn't be in there.
So, on the fact of it, I'd say for this reason perhaps the best is the Lego Star Wars Complete edition - the ones that covered the original 3 plus the prequels. It's the first games refined and it's done rather well all tied up in a neat little bow.

Of course, I haven't played all of them. And of those that I have played, several were extremely buggy so I just dumped them.
For the above, it had a great story, voice acting, humor, and it didn't crash all the time. It's also a franchise that I was actually interested in.
