Steam Family Cooldown Confusion?

I'm a little conflicted between Steams FAQ and forum posts on here. So if I could get someone to explain what would happen in my situation that would mean a lot <3

I am part of a family share with my partner (have been active for over a year) and we recently moved in with some friends and want to join their existing Family share.

If we were to leave ours, would we have to wait a year to be able to join theirs OR is the year cooldown for switching shares after JUST joining a new one? As Steams explanation doesn't really make sense to me...

I don't really want to join if I have to wait a year and wont even have access to my partners games haha...

You leave, you wait a (1) year, then you can join the new family. You should note that family sharing is strictly for same household use only. Abuse of that will have consequences.

Don't want to wait a (1) year? Don't leave your current family group.

There is a one year cooldown. The timer for the cooldown starts when you joined the group.

So if you joined a group 6 months ago and then leave or are kicked, then you have 6 more months before you can join another group.

If you have been in said group for a year already, then you should be able to leave the group and join the new group right away.

That slot in that first group is ALSO on cooldown and you can rejoin that same group with in that 6 month cooldown period.
