Steam account 'apparently' linked to another Epic Games account

I am on EpicGames.com viewing Apps and Accounts and trying to link it to my Steam account. The process fails with the error "unable to connect accounts. your steam account was connected with another epic games account".
I have looked at my Steam account via steampowered.com and the most relevant seciton I can find is the Family Library Sharing and it doesn't show any link to another platform.

How do I find out where my Steam account is linked to Epic? I'd like to know what Epic account it is linked to (I only have the one!) but more importantly how do I unlink my Steam from whatever the Epic account is?

I have been on the ever helpful Steam support and found nothing relevant to my situation only Steam Link for streaming

all linking is done on Epics side, you talk to epic's support.

just to make sure of something. you are the one that created the steam account? if yes, has your account ever been hijacked/stolen/compromised or given to someone else?

Linking doesn't happen on Steams end at all, so check in the Epic account settings. There you'll probably find the way to unlink it.

You contact Epic support as the linking is done on their end.

The table is empty. Either it's not working or the Epic account link error is wrong. It looks like contacting Epic support is my better option seeing as I can't speak to Valve.

IIRC, Epic supports "login through Steam". It might send a confirmation mail, but it might help you figure out the Epic account that's connected to your Steam account.

The table is empty. Either it's not working or the Epic account link error is wrong. It looks like contacting Epic support is my better option seeing as I can't speak to Valve.

I don't know what that table is supposed to show (it's empty for me too) -- Steam doesn't generally know about account linkages.

Yep; the linking is done on Epic's side anyway.
