all i had to do was disable upnp on my router, re-port forward the necessary ports, and then re-enable upnp, and all's fine now
This might be the easier fix to be honest :p
I have found this as well by csg|mc-hotsauce:
Everyone you are playing with needs to change the profile privacy settings "Games Details."

edit- I have no problem playing other games that's not related to steam. WoW, GW2, OSRS are all fine. Discord VC/streams are fine. Everything else is normal aside trying to join someone via a game using steam servers.

No unfortunately. It's nothing invite related I don't think
Looking up online as well, practically every fighting game on Steam also seems to be having this issue, as well as things like Castle Crashers and Code Vein.
It's ridiculous and apparently at least for fighting games has been an issue for months, but it's apparently gotten worse and what's even worse about that is that it doesn't seem to be gaining enough traction online for Steam to have taken notice because it doesn't seem like they know about it.
It's kinda ridiculous.
Sorry to hear you're having the same problem but I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in this boat lol
