Can't Join Friends
I'm having a really weird problem that i've never had before, me and a couple friends literally cannot join each other on any game that we've tried so far. We've tried Halo Wars, and Total War Rome II, and Helldivers. The join button is there when we right click each other on our friends list, but when we try to join we usually end up getting that games version of a failed connection message and that's it. Everyone's internet is fine and no one is having any weird computer problems, and all of this started last week. We've been able to get around it a few times by all of us restarting our steam (or sometimes our whole computer) but it's a very hit or miss solution. We are all completely dumbfounded and I literally don't even know where to begin to look up an error like this it seems so niche. Any help is appreciated, I'm about to lose my marbles.

Edit: So far I've been able to join them on Battlefield V without a problem, but the servers aren't hosted through steam so I'm not surprised

Try this, written by: durinpilled dwarfcell

all i had to do was disable upnp on my router, re-port forward the necessary ports, and then re-enable upnp, and all's fine now

This might be the easier fix to be honest :p
I have found this as well by csg|mc-hotsauce:

Everyone you are playing with needs to change the profile privacy settings "Games Details."

Also getting this, tried joining friends in RoR2 and Helldivers 2 and keep getting kicked out.

edit- I have no problem playing other games that's not related to steam. WoW, GW2, OSRS are all fine. Discord VC/streams are fine. Everything else is normal aside trying to join someone via a game using steam servers.

Im having the exact same problem, my friend keeps getting disconnected when trying to join me on space engineers, hoi4, and most other multiplayer games. Tried disabling IPV6, restarting, changing target location, and many more and nothing has worked.

No unfortunately. It's nothing invite related I don't think

It seems to be a P2P issue. Tabletop Simulator and Civilization 6 is having this issue with me and my friends as well. We could connect to each other no problem until a couple weeks ago and now we can't no matter what we try.

Looking up online as well, practically every fighting game on Steam also seems to be having this issue, as well as things like Castle Crashers and Code Vein.

It's ridiculous and apparently at least for fighting games has been an issue for months, but it's apparently gotten worse and what's even worse about that is that it doesn't seem to be gaining enough traction online for Steam to have taken notice because it doesn't seem like they know about it.

It's kinda ridiculous.

Sorry to hear you're having the same problem but I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in this boat lol

We've been able to side-step the problem on Halo Wars with Radmin VPN, but helldivers 2 still doesn't seem to work no matter what we try.

I've been having this issue too. I don't have problems with some games like Lethal Company, but others like Project Zomboid won't work at all!
