Steam doesn't let me upload a 6MB gif
I'm trying to upload a 6mb gif but steam says "You can only upload files less than 8 MB in file size". Tried with 5mb and the same message appears...

Any ideas how to solve this?

Edit: It's official. Steam only allows file sizes that are less than 5MB.

I asked support about the new 5 MB in the upload, their answer:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Steam Support and report this issue.

We are aware of the problem and are investigating the issue further.

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

There is still hope! Thank you for this update.
Yep, Steam is the new stinking pile of dung now. You get your 'investigating' reply back from steam, and they expect you to hit the 'problem is resolved' button.

How long does it take to 'investigate' something this simple? I could finish playing 5 of the biggest rpgs on steam and they still won't have done anything.

Like I said to them in my multiple messages to support, they're only harming themselves. Technology continues to get better as the years go on, no one downgrades their resolution. So when they downgrade art limits we're all just going to say 'F you' and go to another website. I'll bloody start up deviantart again if I have to. I don't want to but if they don't give a toss about us then I'm not waiting around for their breadcrumbs.
If anyone does complain through support, and they reply, just keep replying it back to them.

You obviously can't press the 'resolved' button, so you have to keep reminding them of their job.

people who have 8mb artwork aren't gonna change it anymore

In my case this is good, because I've planned the current theme of mine to be permanent. However.. It's also bad, because... I didn't want my profile to be the only history themed profile on Steam. As a matter of fact my other desire was to see more history themed profiles enriching the community itself. Sadly, with the 5mb limit it might be hard for others to pull it off now.

Ye, I mma hold it forever prolly now, xd.
Idk what to say here, biggest -rep to steam for that. I just got into design stuff and this happened. Maybe it is time to work with smaller resolution or change type of showcase like snaws advised

I think the people who uploaded such artworks prior policy change have "earned" the right to keep them.

I'm doing a history theme too though I must say what snaws made me looks amazing with the 5mb limit.

Yup it still works for workshop showcase quite well, but for people who would also love to utilise regular artwork showcase, featured artwork showcase and even screenshot showcase 5mb max won't do.

Aye indeed would have loved to use regular artwork showcases too at some point.

It would be doable with current filesize limit if WEBP format was supported instead of GIF. For example my main artwork weights 7,8MB but after convertion to WEBP its 4,30MB and quality-wise looks the same.

If only it was supported. Also I can tell that you are a Roman history enthusiast like myself, cool profile.
>Steam client gets big update!
>Mainly related to Big Picture mode stuff.
>Also filesize gets reduced from 8 to 5 mb.
>Steam has alot of artwork profile users, while nobody uses Big Picture mode at all.

I'll just leave it here for lulz :emofdr:

For my ticket with several questions about what's going on with new limit appearing, why people receive only "We are aware of this problem" responses, when it will be fixed and may there be new supported formats like APNG and WEBP, after 32 hours of waiting I've received... Yep, "We are aware of this problem". Thank you very much for answering on my questions, Selina from Steam Support.

I didn't close ticket this time and typed that they have completely ignored my questions and didn't answer on any of them, and asked why do they have such a bad attitude towards their users. It's really sad that they don't even try to pretend that they do care.

There are 2 options in this case: they are really trying to change something and maybe even add new supported formats, so that's why my questions were left without attention (still, don't know why not answer that they are working on it), or they don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about all of that. Something makes me think that the second is the right one. Steam community management is such a joke I guess :2016imnotcrying:

Finally, some useful kind of answer. Still not very different from "We are aware of this problem", but at least something new
I guess Valve find the solution they just change the warning message from "you can only upload files less than 8mb steam" to → "you can only upload files less than 5mb steam" And the problem fixed. :lunar2019laughingpig:
Well like i said, they really did it, Valve never changing, only easy way! :steammocking:
