Steam doesn't let me upload a 6MB gif

I'm trying to upload a 6mb gif but steam says "You can only upload files less than 8 MB in file size". Tried with 5mb and the same message appears...

Any ideas how to solve this?

Edit: It's official. Steam only allows file sizes that are less than 5MB.

WEBPs support animations too, RIP JPEG XL, but APNG is another option. Smaller limit but more formats would be a good solution.

Behind the scenes, it opens up the upload page and reads the upload limit from the SubmitItem function that ᴿᴸᴰᵀᴴᴵᴬᴳᴼ found.

It seems that your Deno instance (?) is rate limited because all I get is "Sorry. I could not find the SubmitItem function."

Since the RSS feed you made (thank you!) updates daily, I can obviously not check if that works, but try to adjust the fetcher to the rate limit, assuming that's the issue.

I have the same issue. My gif is 6,5 mb and still I got error about 8 mb limitation...

Oof, sorry about that. Cookies expired. Seems like it was not a good idea to only give it my cookies. Now I know those expire. I'll make it login to Steam by itself but for that to work, I need the 2FA shared secret associated with my account. That's not easily accessible but there is a workaround that involves the linked phone number. Unfortunately, I still have my old number linked and when I tried linking my new one, Steam refused to send the code multiple times and now they want me to try again next week... So, expect the RSS to die and fix itself over the next few days.

EDIT: It would be really funny but also cool if Steam reverted it back to 8MB within the week.

EDIT 2: It won't update every 24 hours. This time, it'll update whenever the status changes. If the server dies, my RSS client should tell me anyway.

Compressing gifs adds unwanted artifacts to video game images. Especially games that have film grain, it appears excessively in compressed gifs, but ALMOST unnoticable in games. Steam should allow 8MB gifs again, and keep gifs, because many gamers use this platform as a gaming social media. Whereas Epic Games does not have these functions.

I was able to do surprisinly good looking, but very simple GIF with only background moving under 5 MB by optimizing it first in photoshop and then in https://ezgif.com But yea 8 MB limit gotta return.

The same problema here, i want to upload a 2 mb gif and for some reason weighs more than 8 mb

Probably because it’s only 79% dithering, original image weight 6.5mb. But still quality sucks compared to original
