money taken but no game.
hours ago i tried to buy a game. said the address was wrong and i may have the funds be held by the bank anyway, sure enough i checked my account and my available funds is 19.99 less than my balance. figured out what was wrong with the address and corrected it. got the good ol An unexpected error has occurred. Your purchase has not been completed.
Please contact Steam Support. message.

talked to my bank and they said the last attempt was accepted. the one time i tried with my correct address it went through and they got paid. the problem is i never got a message saying the that payment went through on steam and i haven't received any game. i put up ticket but i don't expect anything. taking my money and not giving me a game is fraud. and no it's not being held, the money was authorized by the bank and steam received it. so don't give me any bs about how steam doesn't have the money, it's just being held for them.

Authorized. Didn't send. Steam won't claim the funds, so they will be on hold for 3-5 days, depending on the bank. Steam never received the authorization, so the payment failed.

steam won't claim the funds what the hell does that mean?

so why didn't steam claim the funds? still pisses me off cause i lose that money for all that time and nothing to show for it.

Because you never got the game. The purchase never went though, and so Steam couldn't verify that you were purchasing the game. The funds were requested to be sent, but somewhere between the funds being sent, and Steam confirming that you have purchased the game, an error occured. Steam never got the final "word" saying you've purchased it, funds were being sent their way, but denied the transaction because your purchase didn't fully go through.

The way it works:
  • You buy game.
  • Steam sends request to your bank for money.
  • Bank acknowledges request and holds funds, awaiting information on where to send and places amount in reserve.
  • Steam never received acknowledgment.
  • Request timed out.
  • Steam sends "failed purchase" message.
  • Money is on hold at bank, awaiting claim or release from bank. Most systems will hold the funds for only 3-5 business days, before releasing them back to the account.

This is a simplified version, but it gives a general idea.

You didn't lose anything. The bank will release the funds when their internal policy allows it.

i still want the you don't know jack classic pack, been wanting to play those for years used to love playing them a long time ago. but there is one problem. i can't buy anything now. i tried buying something else and got the same error message i mentioned in the opening post. is that just because i am trying to use the same card? can i get a stream gift card (the only way i'm going to have enough money to get the game before the 19.99 is returned to me.) and use it on this account to buy the game?

Seeing as that is it's normal price, you have time to find out.

You can but a wallet card, but your current card may still work after the amount gets released back to it.

i tried paying for it through paypal and it doesn't work there either. so it's not just my card that's the problem.

i tried paypal through my bank account instead of my debit card and i still get the damn message An unexpected error has occurred. Your purchase has not been completed.

You need to give it time. Wait a day or two, then try again.

okay i got it figured out. i opened up a second account to see if paypal would work and it did. i bought the latest you don't know jack game which isn't included the pack so i wanted it anyway. so now tomorrow someone will come and help me pay for the classic pack. why don't i just wait until the things clear with the bank? i've been literally waiting for years to play these games again. watching snippets on youtube and feeling depressed that i can't play that anymore. then yesterday i found out that 9 of the games were being released in one cheap pack and it was like the sun rose.

I may be wrong about this, but last I remember, and correct me if I'm wrong, there is no way of transferring games between accounts once they are associated with one. Unless you plan on scrapping your current account, you now need to log in to the second account, any time you want to play that game.

Unless he bought it as a gift and intends to send it to his main account.

Hopefully that's what happened!
