1. Completely exit Steam
2. Open Command Prompt with Admin privileges and type (with quotes):
"C:\Program Files\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe" /repair
Note: Modify directory as needed if you have installed Steam somewhere other than the default location. Also note this may take some time to complete.
Found on mine that 4t Tray Minimizer would cause new Steam to lock up until I added Steam to the exclusion list.
It's located in
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64"
I've got the same problem (PC with system and drivers up to date)
Bitdefender is my antivirus and firewall solution.
I hope Steam will provide quickly a fix to the problem. Disabling antivirus/firewall protection or adding exception rules is not an acceptable solution.
NOT sure if this can cause issues with the steam itself and such, so only do this as a last ditch effert. Try everything above before trying this.
Just came in here to say that this definitely helped. Steam began to act irrationally after trying to update a game and I did almost all the things you would typically think of from rebooting my computer to reinstalling Steam. It just turns out that Bitdefender was the issue.
So if anyone that reads this has a similar problem with steamwebhelper.exe crashing and are using Bitdefender, try this solution first! Hopefully this issue will be resolved via an update from Steam or Bitdefender down the line
Solutions> Go to your bitdefender app and go to exceptions. add your Steamwebhelper.exe as an exception and you should be all good.
Steamwebhelper is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7x64
You need to contact developer of bitfender and their support and explain the issue.
Got the same. THX.
