Deals removed?

Hi there! Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this.

I always thought Steam left the general deals available on all 2000 items up until the last day of the sale (which is tomorrow Jan 3). It seems that if the game isn't on daily deals today, then it's not on sale. This has not been the case in the past, what's going on?

This is not true (at least not for any of the games in my wishlist which was in the general sale) - the all counted down to 6pm/1800 GMT jan. 2nd.

Yeah there were about 5 games I was waiting to buy today - Under the Ocean and Retro/Grade among them. I think Valve messed up on this. If the prices were all going to revert back on the 2nd, then the date of the sale should've said the 2nd, not the 3rd.

Never in the past has the sale ended like this, and the timers had actually been counting down to tomorrow.

Also, the banner still claims 2000 games on sale. If you're truly dense to think that that will just end, then there is no hope for you.

i'll take your word for it if they've never ended like this before if so yes it caught people out. but this thread is just one big whine that basically boils down to peoples inability to make sure of things themselves, and no as lots of people have pointed out the timer on the store pages expired when it said they would. Even trying to twist words to what they dont mean doesn't make it not look like your fault for missing the sales

Just wanting to express my discontent as well regarding this. I was waiting for the last day to see what the encore sales would be, and then I would snag the rest of the items on my wishlist before the sale ended. To my surprise, all but two games are back to regular price on my list, leaving me to not want to purchase anything.

Sales have never ended this way before, and the whole rule of Steam sales is to always wait until the last day unless the game was a featured deal.

As for the timers on the pages, I have no idea what they said or if they were even there. All I did was note the dates of the sale, which clearly says it ends January 3rd, and I looked at my wishlist to see what the prices were for things I wanted. I did not visit each and every page to see a timer existed, since nowhere else was it indicated that this sale would actually end on the 2nd, with only a few deals on the 3rd. It has never operated this way before, and Valve are really hurting themselves with this behavior. Amazon and Nuuvem are still running great deals, so they will be getting my business today while Steam will be getting nothing.

GG Steam. Sale is advertised on the main page until Jan. 3rd, but the timers for non-featured games were set for Jan. 2nd. There's some guy working in marketing there who's like, "What could go wrong?" Instead of getting a huge spike in sales today it'll just be a trickle from those who missed the encore sales. What's worse, is if people are like me, they'll just give their money to Amazon since they still have the majority of the games on sale at the same price point it was during Steam's sale. Ooo, not good for you, Steam.

Lol, I think I'm being pretty calm.....as a matter of fact I'm smiling my butt off right now cause I knew this was going to happen and even made a steam suggestion post about it 3 days ago! Also, I am aware of the date markings on the home page.....as well as the date markings on the news page that coincided with the timers on the games sales.

I have to agree. Really bummed out at not being able to give Valve my money for the games at the top of my wishlist (all categorized & ready to buy on the 2nd).

I'm a big fan of valve and their annual sales...but the communication in this case has been very poor, and, as has already been said, they still have the "over 2,000 games on sale" banner on the sale page.

I'm hoping this was a miss-set date in the backend for the discounts and will be fixed...otherwise they have the most unusual definition of "2,000" I've heard.

Alright, well enough of this pointless back and forth between people trying to voice concerns and people trying to defend Valve (while some throw in useless aggravating comments). The point of this thread was to ensure my problems with this sale were heard. I don't expect Valve to change anything. Business is business and when a decision a made, it's set. All I hope for is perhaps some change in the future.

Man I was going to wait for the last day to pick up Baldur's Gate 2 Enhanced Edition to make sure it wasn't a daily deal or flash deal. Glad I went ahead and purchased it before the sales switched this morning. At least is got the basic 33% price. This does suck though.. I was on the fence of a few other games on my wishlist but not now. I'll just wait until I catch up on my backlog games or the next sale.
