Find a friend who changed their name?

I have a friend who I've been wanting to talk to again for awhile but they changed their name and I don't know what it is. Is there any way to search for them using an old name? I believe they also changed their picture because I can't find their picture either. I also know they didn't unfriend me because we're close friends and haven't fought once, so it would make no sense.

If I try searching through the Steam community about 500 results pop up and it's incredibly annoying searching through all of them.

It may be time consuming, but if you know around what steam level they are this could be faster. But it sounds like they are still on your friends list. It's just your list is too big to find easily. The only way I know of is on someone's profile page you can click the downarrow next to their name and itwill show all names they have used in the past year (possibly longer).

You could also try making a friendly post to your friend-activity feed though asking for the person to contact you. But for the most part it sounds like you may have to just manually go through and inspect a bunch of profiles.

Valve should really make a way to search your friends list for people's old names too like in the search all...

If you known their actual username (the one they login with) you can also search by that I believe.

You should start adding tags and giving nicknames to your important friends now, so that you won't have such problems later.

No offense, but it almost SOUNDS like they did not want to be mean and just wanted to cease contact with you, but I know this does not answer you question...It is my opinion that nothing is wrong here...Steam is working just like it should save the occasional post about not being able to search for known friends because the function is said to not find them well at all.

EDIT...have you considered this POSSIBILITY ?

We don't talk much, it's just a topic relating to something they really like. Also I have a friend who likes to RP as different characters and it would annoy me not to know which character she is when I have her labeled as something else. I'd rather not use the nickname system.

Shining if you add a nickname for them it shows to the right in (parentheses) the name you chose. It will still show the username they are using. I use it to designate my RL friends as some change their name often. So you would still be able to see the character they are currently RP'ing.

Oh... Well then. I guess that would come in handy. I thought it actually changed their name.

bump... this would be nice tho, being able to search by previous names, theres this guy that i used to play with all the time, at least when he was able to, he had college and the internet blocked him from doing some games but i dont recall anytime we really fought, and i know his beginning name. and idk what happened but i forgot about him one day and now im just remembering about the guy, but i cant for the life of me find him at all. he never changed his name for all the time that i knew him, which was probably for like 2-3 years, and when i search his name, nothing pops up, i googled his name, (ingame name) and only 3 results pop up, one from planet-side but the last time it logged him online there was january 9th, 2018. and hes played that game foreverrrr. its like hes just up and vanished from the internet... i miss the guy and wanted to play 7dtd with him again but idk what happened to him or if he still has his steam account at all.
