1 unread chat message notficication won't go away

i have a notification for an unread chat message, but when i click on it the message comes up as unknown and the notification for it won't go away. any idea on how to get rid of it?

Ok, I've managed to solve it by opening a chat window with the guy I had the notification from in the Steam app. If you have the same problem, give it a try.

I cant get rid of it, I always have the notification and I can't unblock them as I honestly cant handle that, not even long enough to read what ever messed up crap she has sent. she is blocked and now unfriended but it still tells me I have a notification from her, please someone help. I have tried the chat window and tried it through the browser version as well as the steam client but nothing works. could an admin not just sort it or something or at least give us a way to clear notifications somehow???

My problem came from a guy who was giving me an invite per day. 'Block All Communications' mysteriously does not block invites so while they were just not showing up in the chat, they were counting toward my chat count. After unblocking the individual the notifications all popped up. Then I unfriended him. Case closed lol.

In my case, the person is not blocked, he is my friend, and clicking the notification simply opens up the chat window and shows the message... but the notification remains.

The new friend interface apparently sends trade offers through the messenger. Even if you already accepted the trade offer through the Steam client itself, the offer will still stay as unread on the messenger, so you have to open the chat to the person that sent you the trade offer to get the notification to clear.

I was having the same problem but the person above saying to open it up in the steam app on your mobile device fixed it.

It's not a requirement to do it in the mobile app, I was able to do it fine in the PC client, I just had to close the chat window & reopen it from the messenger to get it to clear (maybe try restarting the Steam client if it doesn't work on the first try, don't think this is necessary however).
