My friends can't seem to find my profile?
Hey, I was wondering if you guys could help me with some profile trouble I'm having.

None of my IRL friends are able to google my steam profile, despite it being set to public. In fact, if I google my own profile I can't find anything either. I can only find my profile by searching in the community section. I use search engines to find other peoples profiles all the time but I just can't seem to get mine to show up.

Any help would be appreciated as it's getting really annoying conducting all my business through steam messages.

When I put http://steamcommunity.com/id/Bartholomew92 into my browser url, I go straight to your profile. As to googling you, "Bartholomew92 steam" doesn't bring up your profile, but it does bring up your facebook page (I guess it's yours). I think steam has profiles set to not be searchable somehow. If you want them to see your page, you have to give them your url.

This...and if you do not see your url please post back to let us know...mine here strangely turned "off" the other day after an update from Steam...

Interesting that the search turned up for you. I'm not sure what you mean by giving steam your url, but I think that might be root of the problem, how would I do that exactly?

Actually, no that facebook page isn't mine. I double checked my privacy page and I'm definitely set to public. For example, I look up your name "ganmerlad steam" in google (without even including your id and i get:

https://www.google.ie/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=ganmerlad%20steam

I'm wondering why searching my name doesn't seem to produce any result at all?

No, I meant give your friends your profile url. Maybe it has something to do with having a vanity id, or what ever its called? I honestly have no idea what is going on. I am just making a guess.

"I'm wondering why searching my name doesn't seem to produce any result at all?"

It is POSSIBLE that Steam is using multiple servers in multiple areas and the server that your information is stored on is down or laggy or has other issues...

What's a vanity ID? What's more important to search the name on my profile or the steam community id? I've never had to have people look for my profile before.,

Yours comes out as Bartholomew92, mine is 76561198001362759. There is some way to set up a id as a name like you have, but I haven't tried to figure out how.

For example this is what I see when I search "Bartholomew steam" despite the fact that there are several steam users who are also called Bartholomew, shouldn't at least 1 of them show up?

https://www.google.ie/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=Bartholomew+steam+

That's interesting, but surely your profile wasn't always like that?

Go to your profile and click the "Edit Profile" button.

Then there is a spot that says "Profile Name - Real Name - Country - State/Province - City" and then.. "Custom URL" :butterfly:

That's what you want.. put your "vanity" name in your "Custom URL" spot.

How did you just change your 'custom url' (that's what it's called it turns out)? Now it's http://steamcommunity.com/id/Bartholomewgaf lol

I put in Bartholomew into community people finder and you are the first account that comes up. If I put in your custom id name/s, nothing.

Ah yes, I think I understand now. I'll give it a try later, thanks for the help.
