Steam playtime keeps changing

On my profile, it says I’ve played SpiderHeck for 120 hours. That’s false, I’ve played it for 77. And it knows this because whenever I play it and then exit, the hour count drops to 77.

But after a period of time, Steam thinks I’ve played the game for 43 more hours than I really have.

I only have a Steam Deck, so when I’m playing without wifi, it will record the time. I think that’s where the 120 comes from, but I’ve only played 77 hours online.

There have also been moments where it’s offline, I’ll put the Deck in sleep mode, I’ll boot it up again, and it thinks I was playing the entire time. Thus, 43 more hours. That doesn’t happen when it’s online.

So why does Steam count the offline “hours” I have until I play the game online? It’s just weird when I’m sorting my library by hours played, and then the game keeps changing places. Is there any way to fix this and give it a set hour count?

You can also look at my favorite game banner and see World at War has 73 hours, but it says I have 78 in the "Recently Played" section. It's just inconsistent.

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm having the same issue with 2 of my games, most likely because i played offline and clout saves got messed up. If i start them they show the correct time but then I restart steam or wait and it goes back (up)

Yep, that's offline play time kicking in. I think I've read in other threads that it tends to be a little buggy.
