Deleting Subscriptions from Account
I have an open ticket with Steam Support in regards to terminating two of my game subscriptions. The person who played the games no longer lives with me and I don't want them on my account anymore.

I got a reply from Support today saying the subscriptions can be removed, but that "any achievements or playtime accrued on the game(s) cannot be removed from your community profile".

Why is this? I assumed terminating a subscription meant a game would be purged from my account *entirely*. I don't want my ownership, achievements, or hours played of these games to be visible in any way. I want them completely removed.

Is it indeed impossible for them to do this? If anyone has any experience with removing subscriptions please let me know. Thanks so much!!

It seems that you have done all you can do...you contacted Steam and they said no so......no.

But why? It doesn't make any sense. Ive read many discussions on getting games removed and never once saw someone mention this before...

Well, we here in these forums are just users like you...and I am sure there are many things that can come up like this that have not been mentioned before...most likely it is covered in the Steam Subscriber Agreement...and lastly, there is no "why" because Steam said no.

There's probably more to going deeper and removing achievements, etc. than they're willing to do.

I found this...Section 6 Part A...

"User Generated Content" means any content you make available to other users through your use of multi-user features of Steam, or to Valve or its affiliates through your use of the Software or otherwise.

You grant Valve and its affiliates the non-exclusive, irrevocable right to use, reproduce, modify, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, broadcast, and otherwise communicate, and publicly display and publicly perform, your User Generated Content, and derivative works of your User Generated Content, in connection with the operation and promotion of the Steam site. If you use Valve cloud storage, you grant us a license to store your information as part of that service. We may place limits on the amount of storage you may use.

EDIT..achievements and playtime are "User Generated Content" I would say....I really like the use of the word "irrevocable" here...LOL

Thanks for that quote Giving One. Guess it doesn't look hopeful for me.

Anyways, I'm still going to ask them if it's at all possible. Removing the games from my community profile is the main reason I want them gone. I'll keep this thread updated and we'll see what happens.

You are welcome and good luck...you already asked once but it is up to you of course...thanks for keeping us informed..it is not necessarily a bad idea to have those romoved and some here may agree with you but it is up to Steam. Happy gaming !!!

You can hide them from library at least.

UPDATE--

I sent Steam Support a reply emphasizing my desire to have the games publicly removed. In their reply, they said only this: "Unfortunately, stats and achievements cannot be reset for any game or Steam account."

However, now that the subscriptions are gone, the games are indeed removed from my community profile as well. They don't show up anywhere on my games list, regardless of the 80+ hrs logged.

I can only assume this was a communication error, and that the playtime/achievements are still attached in private to my profile and will appear again if I buy the games new. As it is, they are 100% gone.

Thanks again for everyone's help!

That is really great of you to post back and let us know about this...it seems you got what you wished for in a weird way after all...LOL...happy gaming my friend !!

EDIT...This may be related to section 10...the account is not "deleted" but the subscrption is "terminated" so the data is still in Steam's possession but no one else can see it...maybe ?

They wont show on your games list, but they would show up if you played them recently. But would fall off as the 2 week window elapsed.

ALso the achievements are still 'there'. thus anyone deleting a game hping to get some kind of 100% achievement thing on their profile or wahtever will fail because the back end data for achievements is never deleted.

As a note this data is not deleted since its a separate database and that 'deleting' a game is basically how Free Weekends work. It would be bad if you lost your achievements and cloud save files played during a free weekend or a demo of a game if it were removed. That's why they're separate things as far as Steam is concerned.

EXACTLY...as explained in section 10 of the SSA...no mention of the word "deleted"

I'm not sure why people have this bizarre need to remove games from their accounts. It's not like they take up space. Youc an hide games in your library now so even the whole "I'm OCD" thing is pretty much moot.

I think some people have some sort of complex where they want to seperate themselves from a certain game, developer, etc.

Or maybe their employers are super nosy, and they don't want certain things to be seen on their profile.

@Giving One, Satoru - I guess that makes sense in hindsight, but their initial sentence ("[data] cannot be removed from your community profile") is very vague. I reasonably assumed that "community profile" included my entire public page and Support never clairified despite my concerns being very clear. Either way I'm happy it worked out & hope others with the same question will find this thread.
