Unable to download previously bought games onto new computer
So I have purchased multiple games like Mount and Blade, Project zomboid, and Total War among others and I have been playing them on my desktop because my laptop kinda sucks. Well today I finally downloaded Steam onto my computer because I want to play Project Zomboid but I cant play it on the desktop because it's being used and I dont know where to find my previously bought games even though I've checked every place I can think of, I'm still relatively new to steam, and none of my games are there. So instead I went to the store to see if I could download the game directly and it said I needed to buy the game. I've already purchased the game spending 15 of my hard earned dollars on it with no way to transfer games from my desktop to my laptop because I'm not computer savvy. How screwed am I? Is there a way to get my games without having to use a thumbdrive?

Like a lot of people who report this problem, you've simply logged into the wrong account. That one hasn't been used in over 12 months. Check your email and see if you still have the receipts for the games - they'll have the username that the games are registered to.

In fact, transferring the files accomplishes nothing at all -- you need to use an account that owns the games to play them.

Games are attached to accounts, not computers.

The Steam client on the system that uses the correct account will show the account name in the upper right.

1 Install Steam on laptop.
2 Sign into same account that you use on desktop and confirm the new computer use with the email that you will get.
3 Go to Steam on your laptop signed in as the same user and account as the one on the desktop.
4 Download game(s) and play !

That is not a similar problem at all. What is wrong with you?

Could you please be more specific in describing the problem you are having ? Are you getting an error message or anything like that ?

You're probably logged into the wrong account because bought games are saved forever into that account unless Steam themselves removes a game if they notice something illegal.
