steam doesnt recognize my graphic card
i went into the settings and i saw that steam recognized my other video card that is on the mother board intel 4600 hd graphics...

thing is the computer has gtx 660 on it... and i know its working..
now since i saw this im not sure if the gtx was set on default on any other games i played...

so what i did was i went to the control panel-system-device manager-and i disabled the intel 4600 hd graphic card....

then i went back to steam settings and it was still the same thing and i couldnt change it i dont know how...
now im worried that any other games i played was working with the bad graphic card instead of working with the gtx 660..

any ideas?

Big Picture, or why exactly do you care what GPU Steam detects?

It seems maybe he is worried that Steam will somehow only let his on-board gpu be used when playing games instead of his GTX 660. But making sure it is not installed and/or disabled with drivers deleted is not necessarily a bad idea in my opinion.

so u both didnt answer my question... when i play games... the games detect the better graphic driver with no problem?

or not? anyhow i disabled the intel hd graphic 4600 but still steam didnt switch to the gtx 660.... something is wrong here and im worried that in all my other games the other graphic driver was taking effect and not the gtx

Why do you care what graphics unit Steam uses? Do you have problems with your games or not?
If you assume that Steam tells your games what to use, you're wrong.

yeah 2 thing is need goto mortherboard hompage and see if chipset driver is update and
goto nvidia and do sane thing... and while your are there update all drivers to your system

steam use system settings and if that say "i dont say any info" thats what u get from the id

I disabled the Intel HD crap from bios when I built my computer - never got any need for it, and no hassle with games running on the wrong GPU.

NVidia Control Panel has got a setting for preferred GPU, but I think it can still "misjudge" in certain games .. I've seen the "running on the wrong GPU" many times in game hubs, it's like the Geforce Experience: too much hassle for the small gain (if any).

Edit: This tech is more suitable for laptops, for battery preservation when not doing intensive 3D - can't see why anybody would need the built-in GPU in a desktop PC while having a dedicated one :)

Generally it's not a bad idea to have both, it saves a lot of energy as the Intel one draws very little power, considerably less even than the nVidia on idle.
Saved energy means energy to pay for. Saving not only money, but being more eco-friendly.
nVidia Optimus generally does a good job managing that, only the newest games may have issues and that can be fixed very easy.

so i went to the control panel-system-device manager and disabled the intel hd 4600...

so now only the gtx 660 is enabled... that means no matter which game i play it will run on the gtx card... am i correct?

Yes, thats correct. It only matters which card you have enabled in your pc, not what Steam shows. Steam has no control over your pc's hardware.

FYI on board graphics can not be disabled. Trust me I tried and a former IT tech told me that it will not allow you to disable it although it shows as disabled when you toggle it

Ummm…maybe this is an idiot question, but…what's this business about Steam "recognizing" hardware? I've never heard of this. Steam…doesn't have anything to DO with "recognizing" hardware. The only POSSIBLE exception I can think of is when you are using Steam hardware—which does not include graphics cards.

Seems kind of like asking, "what if Steam doesn't like carrots?" I'm a meat-and-potatoes man, myself.
