Does buying a game on steam let you download it on all of your computers?
Hey,
I'm new to steam and I'm not 100% sure on how it works.
I'm looking to buy the game Far Cry 4, but I need it for my laptop AND my PC.
Will I be able to download it on both while only using up $70? (Price of far cry 4)
In other words, if I buy a game on steam, can I use it on all computers that are logged into my steam account?

Once you buy a game on steam it is yours to download and install always on any computer that you sign into and verify your account on. You can instal a game as many times as you like.
Does that answer your question ?

Yes, omg, thankyou. That made my day... So basically downloading a game on steam is better than buying it from the store? Because I heard that on the one's with the CD that you get from your local games store, you can only download it on 1 Computer.

Some games only allow a certain number of installations. However, most allow you to ask for more.

Nowadays, almost all games allow unlimited downloads. But yes, Steam is nice!

You are welcome. Just remember to only do this on computers that belong to you. Goes without saying I know but some people try to get games for their friends and share accounts and that is a NO-NO...just saying....Happy gaming !!!

Hello Diamond Znip3r.

Purchasing games from Steam will give you a digital copy of the game, which you can download using your Steam account in any computers.

If you purchase a retail copy from your local store, commonly known as physical copy of the game, you don't need to download the game anymore, you just need to install it which saves you time and you can install the game in any computers as well. What it limits is it only allows 1 Steam account to play that game, which is basically the same in purchasing games from Steam. You can only play the game under 1 Steam account.

So if you buy a game from your local store, you can install it in any computers, but you can only connect it and play it under 1 Steam account. Once you use the game code to one of your Steam account, you can not transfer the game to other Steam account anymore, but you can install it in any computers, provided that you are using the same Steam account to play the game.

Good point TheSinglePlayer and thanks for the tip. That is important to know for everyone here also.

Oh, that cleared alot. When you say "What it limits is it only allows 1 Steam account" in the third paragraph, do you mean a Uplay account?
TheSinglePlayer Nov 21, 2014 @ 11:15pm
No. Steam account is different from a Uplay account. Steam account is what you are using now. If you buy a game from Ubisoft through Steam (and this is Steam), you'll be needing both Steam account and Uplay account.

Oh okay, thanks.

But to simply answer your question. Yes you can. As long as you log in the Steam account you used to purchase Far Cry 4 to your other computers (PC/Laptops), it will allow you to install.
You're welcome.

Yes. As long as CS:GO was purchased with your Steam account logged in, you should be able to log back into your account on your own computer to download, install and play it. Just make sure that you logged out of your account on your friend's PC.
