GTA V (CD Version) to Steam
I'm planning to buy GTA V as soon as it is released as a CD Version. Since I've a pretty bad connection, I think it is better to buy it this way because downloading the game (65 Gb) on Steam would take me a lot of time. I was asking myself if I would be able to use the CD key on Steam as a Retail Key once I've the game to put it in my Game Library without entirely downloading the game using the CD installation on Steam. I know this works for many game but I'm not sure and I'd like to know if this will work fine. Thanks for reading and answering :)

Im guessing the new gta V for pc will come with a set of install discs since the size is 65gb. Once you have it installed on your comp you can play it on any account as long as you have put in a key or bought it from the store. So yes it will work :)

Retail versions do not register through Steam.

I doubt they'll release it on CD... Retail games started being delivered on DVDs years ago due to their size.

As for the question:
Nobody can answer that yet. Rockstar hasn't said anything about activating retail copies on Steam. At least I assume that this is what you want. Otherwise I have no clue what you mean by "use the CD key on Steam as a Retail Key".

Anyway, I'd say it won't work. We're talking about Rockstar here and Rockstar hates PCs.

If you buy ANY other version - Retail box, GMG Digital, Amazon, etc. It uses Rockstar's DRM and will have nothing to do with Steam.

The only place to get the Steam version is on Steam.

You can't redeem a retail key on steam.

Before I came to this post, I found this:

Please also remember that Rockstar Activation Codes are “one use” codes that are tied to your Social Club account when you activate the game and Social Club accounts cannot be transferred. For details, please refer to the Grand Theft Auto V PC System Specs...
