Wallet funds, currency problems, fair?
Hey, i don't think it is fair/acceptable that if i want to buy steam wallet funds, it has to be in the right currency. This currency problem is causing a lot of problems. Why is it not fair? Well you see in my case, i lived in another country before and spent money with that foreign currency to buy games. Now i am not living in that country anymore. After moving out, i stopped buying games but my currency is still in my previous country that i lived in. Even though i changed my country to the current one i am staying in, the currency stays in the old foreign currency. As you can see here, to change the currency you have to buy something from the steam store. How cunning of valve to charge us more to change the currency to buy steam wallet funds! "You could always buy the cheapest item from the store", u can't have 1 million dollars without $0.01.

Please do something about it.

Summary: To buy steam wallet funds you need the right currency and to change to the right currency you have to buy an item from steam store and it will automatically cahnge the currency to the right one.
Do you think it is fair that you have to spend money then to spend money to buy steam wallet funds to buy game items?

Please do something about it.

I don't see what is so unfair. If you aren't buying anything...why do you need to change the currency? They have to make sure that you aren't just switching the currency to match some other country's currency because it is cheaper. Am I not reading something right?

Doesnt mean much what signs(£$€) or numbers you read, but for me the problem is the constant change in currency rates. If theres an item going for 10-lets say AUD- and up, and I put 1 up for 9.75, its not given that it will be listed on top as cheapest. I can have 4-5 listings over mine even if it says Im cheapest, but when I check from a device not signed in -in USD- the 4-5 listings are priced lower than mine. Im not a big fan of checking every listing daily on several devices to make sure its listed correctly according to todays currency rates

You should probably refer to the new "Home Currency" FAQ. It should answer all your questsions

Yeah, I have...several times. This is why I didnt think I could change currency:
"What if I want to purchase in a currency or country other than what is shown?

Your store country must be set to your country of permanent residence, where you have a local payment method. You cannot change your store country to one in which you do not have a local payment method."

Still dont think its possible, unless theres something Ive overlooked.

It works if you are PHYSICALLY in the target country. For example. I am in the USA. So my wallet is in USD. However when I go to say Canada on a drunken bender I could log into steam and add a Canadian payment method without issue. Buy something with Candadian funds. Then that payment would be valid. No support required, it all works seamlessly

However I could not be in the USA and then 'pretend' to be in say Germany and try to pay in Euros. It requries you to physically be in the desired country for it to work.

In your situation it sounds like you were in country A before, but are now PHYSICALLY in country B. You can now add a payment method in Coutnry B without issue. Then buy somthing in country B. And be set. OR you can set you 'home' back to country A.

Thse are teh relevant sections for you

What do I do if I changed my store country and now I'm unable to use my wallet funds?

Once you've selected your new country of residence from your account page, you'll need to verify that you do in fact live there by using a local payment method tied to a local address for your next purchase. Once the purchase has completed successfully, your Wallet currency will update to your new country of residence. You will not be able to apply your wallet credit towards this purchase since it has not yet been updated to the new country.

How do I change my wallet currency?

In most cases, your wallet currency will reflect your store country from the Account Details page. If you would like to update the currency of your Steam Wallet, you may either:

Complete a purchase using your new store country without using or applying any wallet funds from your old store country. After completing the purchase successfully, your wallet will update to the new country using daily exchange rates.
Contact Steam Support and request a Wallet conversion. You will need to attach to your ticket proof of residence in your new country for verification purposes. Examples of acceptable proof are your drivers license, ID card or Passport.

I have moved, how do I change my store country?

If you have permanently changed your country of residence, you can set your store country to reflect that. Go to your Account Details page and you'll find Store Country in the right column under Your Steam Account. Once you've selected your new country of residence, you'll need to verify it by using a local payment method tied to a local address for your next purchase.
For example:

Say you've recently moved to the United States. You'll now see United States as an option in the Store Country drop down. Selecting it will change your store to display products and pricing available in the United States. To verify your new country of residence, your next purchase will require a payment method tied to an address within the United States.

I don't se the problem

A) You can use Country A currency if you want
OR
B) You can use Country B currency but you have to buy something with a local payment method to prove you live there. Once you do that the country is permanently verified.

I'm unclear waht the issue is. If you dont want to add money, set your home country back to COuntry A and drain your steam wallet if that's the issue. If not make a purchase of some kind in Country B.

What part of this process is 'unfair'. You want to use the steam store, how is a requirement for buying something 'unfair' if you implicity want to buy something on steam in the first place?

I never moved anywhere, sorry for not being clear. And I wouldnt have a problem with local currency if the rates were stable, but with the currency changing all the time just messes up my listings.

n

Again I'm not sure what the issue is

1) use your original country wallet
2) buy new wallet in the new country

You seem to be making your own problems when there are already 2 entirely obvious solutions available. You then complain that you have to 'buy something on steam' as 'sneaky' when your entire intention is to.... buy something on the market?

OP just in case it was not clear, you can just buy funds... you will any way need to do that to get things from the market.. so that fixes the problem no?
