I had also read an article that steam was gonna stick in a donate system. Thought they had.

They've historically ignored the issue, with no one going after donations on sites like Nexus Mods, but I guess the combination of letting the modder charge (as opposed to optional donation system which would still have to be dev approved) in conjunction with Steam (and its huge customer base) getting a cut was just too sweet of a honey pot to ignore.
3 of them have links behind them; 2 are used for spacing and 1 is the one on the left
I think the code might've been something as simple as
