No Purchase = No Proof of Ownership? Real life stories WANTED!
Hello everyone,

I have a friend who has a steam account locked by a message saying "your account might be hijacked so we lock it down for your own safety"

He would like to get back the control over his account but he never ever purchased or bought anything ever on it.

No wallet.
No purchased games
Only GIFT games
or F2P games

Question is, will steam support be helpful and work around it or they will stick to their rules?
Answer only if you ever known somebody with the exact same situation, and please save the life of my friend with enlightening informations based on true actually happened events.

Have you ever proven your ownership over a NO-WALLET only F2P/GIFT gamed account?
Yes?
Tell me your story!

Thank you very much in advance!

You get an Email when you get sent a gift, I'd imagine that would suffice?

Steam are quite stict regarding this matter and the only methods of proving ownership are listed here https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2347-QDFN-4366

Does he have any record of gifts received through email?

I might be wrong, but I think the message about the account being locked down appears when you log in, they don't send you an Email about it or anything like that as far as I know.

Thank you for the opinions guys, but every of your suggestions or questions have been already asked/heard/tried. All I need is a living person who experienced this in reality and got it solved or not solved.

You can trade items without wallet.
You can even level up your steam account without wallet.
You can play gifted games or f2p games or even family shared games on your account.

He has a lot of items there that are very important for him.

No one can have been in the exact situation.

Your friend needs to contact support. They can say what alternative they may offer. No one in the forums has that information. The closest is the link that was provided.

Honestly, I think the chances are slim, but you never know untill you try.

Also hi-jack alerts can occur for many reasons. But in order to inspect your case, first you need to pass the first step: Proving your ownership.
If you have no wallet, but a bunch of valuable stuff and gameplay on your account you don't get support service?

He's exhausted all his options then if he cannot provide the adequate information. If he's not financially committed to the account; it's not worth anything and if users aren't willing to spend even a penny on Steam; they should at least maintain their account to standard so such issues don't arise.

If he cannot even provide one email receipt of a gift; then there really isn't anything more that can be done. Hundreds of people on here every month get their account back after falling victims to such issues and in many cases; accounts are recovered extremely promptly by Support.

Again, He has total control over his email. He has the email as well where he receives the gift, but as I already said Gifts don't count as proof.
I really just want to hear someones experience. I saw some people having the same issues but they vanished after their cases got solved/not solved since they posted on a smurf account (as their affected account was locked down at the time)
I'm looking for these people.
